C'mooon, it might be even good and great but there's no way to compare it to a FF DSLR....even if that FF is 3 year old.Thats absolutely nonsense, and I don't hate Sony, it just cant be comparable.
I do agree though with your title. But we must not forget, world is like going S___/almost total S___ right now...we are already lucky to get to the end of the month. Almost all problems I guess derives from the crisis, the calamities that struck on Japan, on Thai, I mean let's face it...it's not a good moment for our world.

As far as I know photography is about image quality for many people.
In my mind, there is no game between the a77 and 5DmII:
-a77 IQ is crap at 100% compared to 5DmII (yes I care about 100%, I don't print, but enjoy watching my pictures at 100%)
-Sony lens lign up looks like 20 years old, very few good glasses, and most of them don't have fast and silent ultrasonic AF.
-I want a camera that can shoot more than 400 pictures with the same battery and will not fall apart right after warranty period (Sony Style...  )

By the way, I don't know if somebody mentioned this information on the forum, but the Nikon D700 and D300s will be out of the market from Nov. 20th in Japan for "non compliance to Japanese electric regulation" (http://www.nikon-image.com/support/whatsnew/2011/wnew111108.htm).
Therefore, 5DmII is now the only affordable FF camera available in Japan. So Canon as no pressure yet to release a 5DmIII.

i would prefer to have a lower MP camera that shoots great low light and is crystal clear when at these said low iso settings instead of a high MP camera that has lousy iso.

Mind you this is probably because I'm one of them photographers that hates using a flash.

those two points are two of many reasons that separates the 5d from A77.

Pixel Quality is a huge factor in picture quality.
Ignore sensor noise; are you seriously saying you don't care about noise?

The difference between 21 MP  and 18 is almost nothing have a look at this review

and have a look at the noise crops where it has the 5d mkii the 7d and the 1d mk3 hell even the 1dmk3 isnt too bad compared to the 5d  mk2 size wise remember dimensionally 10MP is NOT half the size of 21MP I have both the 5d mk2 and 1d mk3 and decent composition with the 1dmk 3 plus the 1.3 crop of the aps-h with a 300mm lens lets me get better shots than the 5d mk2 could (and thats before i even get started on the rubbish 5d AF, my 1Dmk3 is a late model that doesnt have the AF issues the early ones had) and then have to crop as there just isnt that much room to crop out.

Well tell me good sir what can we argue? Because you just elimitated one sides main points. I'm pretty sure that is a big foul when it comes to a discussion.

So if we can't talk about pixel quality or sensor noise, I say we can't talk about megapixel count or burst rate either.

Plus I don't normally talk about pixels at BBQ parties (not for a lack of trying though  ).

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the A77 a crop body?  Also comparing image quality of the 7d OR the 5d2 compared to sony's offering...  EHhh... i'll pass.  Tempting but people who get excited about this camera in my estimations are pure number people and not as concerned about quality... Crap in, and crap out... I need my photos to look stunning in print, and if i cant count on it in print, what else is there for me to get excited about?

The title of the thread caught my eye, but the content is a yawn. My NEX7 is on flood-backorder, so I have no comment on the sensor yet, but I am confident it'll blow the G12 into the weeds, and that is all I'm expecting and asking of it.

Re the comment " Is anyone awake in Canon HQ?" I think it'll be interesting to see if all those prosumers who've endlessly brayed for low MP's have managed to get Canon to clip its own feathers. The other pros I've spoken to, like me, are passing on the new EOS. We're all waiting to see what the 36mp Nikon is going to deliver, because those of us who can and do light our pictures want high MP's, and maximum quality at 100-1000 ISO. Much above that doesn't really matter to us, and we're all stunned that Canon has thrown us into Nikon arms, especially after showcasing a 100mp sensor a year or so ago.

Not true. My 7D has more megapixels. The trick is to take a photo and then in Photoshop, enlarge it to 200% and voila !!! more than 70 MPs
