Who needs a small stealth camera when you can put a 2x teleconverter on an EF 1200/5.6, and mount it on a 4/3rds camera and get 4800mm equivalent length?

The photos look pretty good, but I'd be more concerned about the video capabilities. From what I've seen of every video on youtube involving the NEX 5, it's fairly unwieldly without the use of a monopod or tripod due to a lack of IS on the camera or lens. Once you put a monopod, tripod or steadicam on the thing it's not so stealthy anymore.

Banal, unchallenging photographs that pretty much anyone could take, with pretty much any camera - hardly a test of what a given body is capable of.

So yes, I can imagine that someone who takes snapshots for a living (as an aside: people make a living from that stuff?) would be happy with a glorified P&S like the Sony: get back to us when the pro sports and wildlife 'togs are using them.

The newer camera models continue to improve, and even a 100 dollar point and shoot is excellent for ordinary snapshots.  Compared to what my $300 point and shoot olympus 35mm superzoom could do in the mid 90's, digital is way ahead.

I have my 5D MK II solely for its high ISO ability, and I don't think that the NEX 7 will compare when it is finally available.

Isn't that kind of the point? Most camera users won't push their camera -the very fact that any camera can now take these unchallenging photos says something. That the NEX-7 is showing that the bar is being raised - will lay people believe or feel that there is now less to differentiate between a NEX-7 for example, and higher end but longer in the tooth dSLRs like the 5D MkII?
Between great, and good enough. I'd agree - it's not the simple easy shots that should differentiate, and more challenging shots,video will show this. But will consumers agree? I'm guessing higher end 5D MkII customers make up less of the camera market profits than NEX-7 and below models?

unless Canon suddenly get their finger out NEX7 is my next camera although see it as my personal camera where the 5dmk2 is my work camera..
