I think Canon will release some hi-res pictures taken with the 1D X in the near future.
But only after Nikon officially has launched their D4 to the public.

This closes down any refinements Nikon can make to their D4, while Canon might still have one or two month to make some minor adjustments. In the end both camera's are more or less the same and it comes down to the firmware.

At 2:30, he said "4799 available on Feb 16!!!"

The sales of D4 is like 1.5 months ahead of 1D X - will that make Canon speed up their final wrapping work?

£4799 refers to price in british pounds, not quantity available. Which would put the british price about $648 above the US price of $6800. I seem to recall reading that Canon is aiming at 10,000 units per month for the 1D x.

I imagine that Canon could have several thousand ready for an advance launch if they felt like pushing up the date to steal Nikon's thunder.

£

... is the symbol I was looking for before I hit post button, but was too lazy and assume ppl will know coz he said "£4799 including VAT."  But now when I look back what I wrote, it really sounds like there are 4799 units available.  Thanks for pointing that out.

"...Canon has set initial production at 7,000 units per month."  BTW, Asahi is a major news media in Japan.

So now D4's pre-order is full/available here/there while still no one is able to pre-order online for an 1D X in the US.  What's going on Canon?!

Some insiders told me it's because Canon hasn't confirmed the price at all.  So major retailers hesitate to take pre-order.

My other guess is that they still couldn't get the FCC authorization yet for the gigabit ethernet thing.  The following statement has been on 1D X product page on Canon USA since day 1.  Same thing is written in Japanese on Canon Japan too.

"...The EOS-1D X has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. These devices are not and may not be offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained..."
