More Noise Comparisons, C300 vs Red Scarlet

Bring on the noise It was inevitable, but now we have a comparison of the Canon EOS C300 & Red Scarlet when it comes to high ISO noise performance.

Definitely the sort of situation where, if you could afford to own both cameras, then it'd probably be beneficial to do so. C300 definitely appears to have a nice dynamic range, and allow for usable footage in scenes that you may not have the time or money to light properly / extensively. On the other hand, The Scarlet I would imagine has a stronger performance for preset scenes with the appropriate lighting in mind. Nonetheless, an interesting analysis. Note the comparison of a 35mm f/1.4 on the scarlet to the 77mm f/2.5 on the c300.. i suppose some of that color noise and banding could be further reduced with a 35 f/1.4 on the c300, and shoot at a lower ISO. Very excited to see these sorts of comparisons though.

It's just your imagination.  Red has poor color rendition, clippy highlights, and more skew.  There's great looking red footage (Pirates 4, Prometheus, Girl with Dragon Tattoo) but out of camera it's a mess and the prototype c300 footage is far more aesthetically pleasing with nicer memory colors, more pleasant knee, and subjectively better noise texture.

The on-set interface (and post production interface) are also completely broken with the Red camera.

4k is insignificantly superior for broadcast--but for a blockbuster, 8 bit 4:2:2 MPEG compression is outright insufficient.  So the Red has the advantage in this respect alone.

The c300 shows a couple stop advantage with a lens 1 2/3 stops slower.  Wow.

So they did a "test"... with different apertures and different exposures and gains and focal lengths? I mean wtf... If you want to do side by side comparisons at least make sure the premise is the same for both cameras. Bloody idiots.
