Canon scores 6 of top 20 DSLRs in Japan for 2010

The top 20 DSLR cameras account for 72.4% of DSLR sales.

Of that 72.4%, Canon has 27%, Nikon 22.5%, Sony 11.9%.

27.6% of DSLR sales are for cameras that came in at under 1.5%.

Ah. Since November, the D300s and the D700 are no longer for sale in Japan, but that shouldn't have a big impact in this Jan to Dec list.

mmm.... it seems interesting to note that different generations of Canon XXXD and Nikon's DXX models appear on the list. There are still quite a number of people who are willing to pay for the older models, choosing better price over some of the newer tech features.

Maybe not 'dominate', but mirrorless have 8 of the top 20 - thats pretty impressive. I don't get it, but evidently alot of folks do. Percent of sales is nice, but how many units does that actually represent? Do we have total sales figures? How does that compare to P&S types?

I think the Olympus pen models are selling well here as they (as well as some other smaller cameras) come in about 40 different colours (lots of shades of pink and purple) and they are a popular "cute" accessory for your average Mickey Mouse t-shirt Japanese adult aged 18-80.

OT side note, I am the only adult I know in Japan never to have been to Disney Land. "Cute" stuff sells like hot cakes....
