thanks click, they are fun to watch. it's puzzling why they seem to prefer spending time upside down?

i suppose this thread is going to be slow considering the sparse population of this lens in the wild.

white breasted nuthatch.

7dii + 1.4xiii f/8 1/90s iso1000

I really like the nuthatch. Did some photos myself.
Great capture..upside down. And, nice sharp!

Not much action on this thread. Here are a few from a couple months ago. shot out of a canoe with the 1.4xiii its really good for that, handles very well in close quarters.

The Blue Wren can be found about 200 km South from Perth in the Margaret River region. They do not live in Perth city area. Occasionally you will see one in the hills east of Perth, but that is very rare.
The pic is from a male bird and they only have this intense blue colour during mating season, which is about now (spring in southern hemisphere).

I really like the area around Margaret river. I stayed in yallingup for bit. I've always been there in Feb, mar. I guess they are not in their breeding plumage then.

Please see attached Blue wren in "summer" colours.
Yallingup is just at the edge where you can find them. You need to look in an area where there are a lot of high trees with little undergrowth. Further south on Caves Road the trees change to karri and marri and they prefer that.
Anyway, I hope you have the opportunity to visit the region again, September/October is by far the best as it is wildflower season as well.

Very nice first post. Welcome to CR.

Keep posting your examples so that I may be persuaded to do something about the GAS!  I'm happy with 300 X2 but ......... you know.  Only 1/400th, that's impressive.

An example of BIF with a 2xIII extender. A common tern at 1/2500 sec, ap. 8, iso 1600. Distance 30-60 meters. Handheld 7Dmk II. This is with stabilization mode 1 so possibly the sharpness can be improved. Nevertheless, I can still enjoy this picture.
