Common Bittern
1DXII, 600II + 1.4x III @ 840mm, 1/5000, f/8, ISO1600, 0 EV

Impressive - can't visualize myself accomplishing that!

Jack

Thanks, Jack.  It's a matter of practise, I think. And I guess having been a sportshooter for many years, in a discipline (Field Target shooting) using a 50 mag scope for rangefinding, is helpful for swinging a big and high magnification lens right on target ;-).

Another one of the Bittern, the same exif data.

Sports shooter!  Now I feel really discouraged. :)  Never the less I'll be striving to emulate it.  More than one way to skin a cat, I've found.  CR is great in making sure one never feels accomplished or cocky.

And the Great Crested Grebe´s chicks are out. This one had 4 eggs, but only one chick made it.

1/640s, f/7.1, ISO4000

ISO4000 looks brilliant compared to what the 5D3 could achieve. Did you use any noise reduction?

Thanks for your comments.

This morning I stopped by Østensjøvannet on my way to work. One of the Great Crested Grebes were still lying steady. I knew they had at least one chick out, but there were more eggs in the nest. While I was there, another one hatched. On this picture it is about 15 minutes old.
The one climbing on their mother/father (they are sharing the nest duty and I cannot tell them apart) is a couple of days old. A great morning experience.

Thanks for all the posts on this 1DX2 thread, Eldar. Some great bird images there.
TPatana, i have not done any MA on the 1DX Mark 2, so far images are sharp as I would expect, on the EF 100-400ii and 500f4ii.
The image of the African wild dog is from the Okavango Delta. It was taken with the 1DX Mark 2 and EF 500L f4 IS ii. Shutter speed 1/1250sec at f4.0, iso 200. Ai Servo. M-Mode and Auto Iso. Evaluative metering. Handheld. The wild dog was walking directly away from the sun, and they have dark faces. I couldn't overexpose for the dogs dark face because of the bright gold rump, and the bright water.  In post processing I brightened the dogs face selectively, as well as brightened the entire image.  I was very happy with the way the image turned out. I downsized the 20mp image to 1800 pixels long edge for this thread.

Hi Grant, my favourite Animal, love this image, the slower shutter speed rendered the background perfectly, I'm a Fan of your web site, often visit it for any up to date info on where to go, how to best set the Camera up.

I'll be in Mala Mala in 2 weeks then on to Zarafa & Vumbura Plains for 3 weeks after that, Leopards & Wild Dogs, everything else is a Bonus.

It's great to see a Pro such as yourself actually posting & rendering advice here at CR, Thank You

Thanks Edward. Well, with a 10 week old Keeshond, you have a real fur ball to photograph. Looking forward to see some :)

Hi Eml58, thanks for the comment.  Also you have a high quality photographic itinerary lined up - those are three great places  :).  Good luck and hope to see some of your images, and I also hope the dogs show for you. Cheers

With 14fps at your disposal if you do miss the shot just hand all equipment into the nearest charity shop and walk away!

Looking forward to see your shots  :)
