Cokin and Lee .. supplies
« on: January 27, 2012, 05:24:01 PM »
hope it fits in here....

are there any news about cokin or lee?
for many month it´s very hard to get stuff from cokin or lee.

i read cokin was bought by kenko-tokina and hoped that the shortage will soon be a thing of the past.. but nothing changed.

my dealer has only a few cokin kits (stuff nobody buys) and can not even guess a date when he gets what he ordered from lee.

are there any news?

I don't know if there is news.  I was waiting for the Big Stopper for a long time until I finally just purchased the B+W equivalent, which has worked out well.  Formatt also sells ND filters.  Dealers in the USA (Adorama, B&H) and international dealers on ebay sell Lee, Cokin, Formatt, and B+W.

I, too, was hoping for a Big Stopper for use with my 16-35L II and TS-E 24L II.  Fortunately, Schneider Optics (parent company of B+W) came out with an 82mm 10-stop ND filter.  Wait over - I bought one and am quite happy with it.

I was waiting for the Cokin Z-Pro too, but I finally decided to buy it second-hand because of the limited stocks...

I was able to get two 4x6 graduated ND filters on ebay (2 stop hard, 3 stop hard) for about 50% of their regular price.  This was better and cheaper than having to wait for the stores to stock them.

Smaller companies may have had financial difficulty due to the economic times, and had to hunker down, cut production,  or even sell themselves to a larger outfit.  Unfortunately, the specialty accessories are not the big volume items, and are likely to be delayed until better times.

Spring and Summer are the big sales periods, so they need to step up production now or go out of business.
