Tamron introduces 24-70mm f/2.8 with IS

xROELOFx:
Apparently Tamron has developed a new 24-70mm f/2.8 lens with IS: http://www.tamron.eu/uk/news/read/data/tamron-develops-full-size-high-speed-standard-zoom-with-built-in-image-stabilization-sp-24-70m.html

I wonder how Canon will respond. An update of the current 24-70mm, with IS would be most welcome.

wickidwombat:
interesting it will be good to see some reviews, I'm not a fan of tamron, I wish canon made it instead :(  :'(

xROELOFx:
yeah, me too. if tamron can, canon sure can too!

traveller:
Hopefully this will shame Canon into matching their offering.  There is however always the potential of a tradeoff between quality and image stabilization, not only because of the additional elements, but also because of the risk of decentering (this is afterall, what IS does).  It's not that these issues are insurmountable in a fast zoom, the 70-200 f/2.8 IS II is a good example that it can be done, but as this lens shows there is a monetary price to be paid.  Still, Canon 'L' lenses are supposed to be the best...

well_dunno:
I am pleased about this announcement. Even though I have not had many Tamron lenses, the ones I had did not make me regret, you get a bit more than what you pay for  ;D
