24-120mm or 15-75mm or 15-50mm?

Given Canon has had over 3.5 years to work on this version, a reduction in weight and size with 24-120mm on an APS-C sensor is expected.

Anything else will be disappointing.

Otherwise opt for a more compact Sony A6000 with kit lens.

LOL 24-120 for an APS-C compact camera?  *WITH* a reduction in size and weight? what planet are you thinking of buying this camera from?

go ahead and use that A6000 and crappy zoom get it now.  practice stopping down to F/11 so that diffraction is bad enough you can't tell how bad it is in the corners.

Sounds like another Canonitis then...

Not getting the point of the G1X III... Slower lens, shorter focal length, larger sensor.

3.5 years plus in the making, this is already sounding disappointing. :-(

Canon don't screw this one up again.

24-120mm lens or 15-50mm or 15-75mm???

Seems not much difference between this and a Sony A6000 with kit lens.

Is Canon once again trying to catch up let alone come up short to the competition yet off nothing really new?

Sounds like another Canonitis then...

sounds like an idiot speaking.

you can't expect to increase the sensor size, decrease size and weight and also at the same time expand / keep the lens the same.

the three just don't physically happen on this planet , possibly universe.

Maybe they do in an unreality bubble  ;)

That's my worry on the aps-c sized Powershot. If it's as big as say an M6 with kit lens then there's not as much point in it - unless the lens is faster and really stellar.

Dimensions (W x H x D) of the G1x mkII: 4.58 x 2.91 x 2.61 in. / 116.3 x 74.0 x 66.2mm
(from https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/products/details/cameras/point-and-shoot/advanced-cameras/powershot-g1-x-mark-ii)

I have to assume the mkIII will not stray far from that.

That one had a 24–120mm f/2-f/3.9 lens with a 1.5in sensor.
The mkIII rumor/guess is a 24-120 f/2-f/5.6 with a slightly bigger aps-c sensor.

75mm is noticeably longer than 45 or 50mm.
A kit 15-45 f/3.5-f/6.3 or 16-50 f/3.5-5.6 is also a stop slower than the rumored lens for the G1x mkIII over equivalent range, so it's not a valid comparison.

Sorry you feel that way...again 3.5 years in the making, doesn't appear Canon has made much advancement.

Canonitis

Noun/Latin Origin
– To never go the full step you really need to innovate and take over the market.

If it has and EVF and decent build with a good buffer, I'm in.

I take for granted the lens will be OK and the sensor will be at least as good as today's.

The leaf shutter will make my day for my work.
