That's two days in a row of (apparently) authorized resellers violating MAP for the 5D4 and 6D2.

Doesn't Canon have a ruthless policy on this these days, or are they in on this very not-like-them super bundle + rebate move?

I heard a few weeks ago that these deals were coming, so I think the retailers are getting a free pass OR they've double up rebates. Mail-in for the customer and a dealer rebate on the backend.

That 6D2 deal is shocking.  That camera cost $1999 five months ago, and now you can get it + grip + all kinds of other crap for $1369.

Shocking.

I know the price will spring back up, but this is effectively a margin-free giveaway for Canon to rack up units sold in Q4.  Consider: the remaining inventory of new 6D1s are going for $1269 right now.

Anyone care to surmise WHY we're getting such great deals on these cameras? It can't be because they're selling incredibly well.

At this point, I'm even tempted by the 5DIV, and my issues with the lack of inspirational 4K on that cam are well known here.

The deal Adorama had over the weekend on the original 6D and Pro-100 printer bundle for $899 after rebate was crazy. That got me to finally upgrade from my crop sensor.

That's a great deal going on the 6D Mark II too.

The 5D4 is a nice bundle and a nice incentive.  Were I in the market, that looks like a $350 rebate and free first party grip -- I would consider that deal over a Canon refurb body.

But the 6D2 deal is comical.  It's effectively a double rebate in that the price just dropped recently already.  I cannot fathom this at all other than:

  • Canon is pulling a stunt to jack up Q4 units (and I'm not even sure if this is their fiscal Q4)

  • Canon is dangling some hot deals to deter/deflect/mitigate the imminent launches of the D850 and A7R3

  • Canon is dramatically accelerating their lifecycle/refresh timing and this is simply the real world effect of competition and depreciation of inventory value  ha ha ha, this is Canon, I kid.

  • B&H and Adorama are starting a 'bundling' / rebate price war like in years past and is hoping Canon doesn't come after them for it this time

Isn't it obvious? Canon is afraid of the millions of users mass migrating to Sony. They have to compete somehow after the obsolete lemons of the 5d4 and 6d2. ;)

GREAT DEAL for the 5DIV Camera Body. Especially for a domestic deal. I paid $2800 just for the camera body alone about 8 months ago.

Do the math. There is no violation of MAP.

Current MAP price for the 5DIV is $3199. You will pay $3199 for these bundles.

Current MAP price for the 6DII is $1999 minus a $300 instant rebate or $1699. You will pay $1699 for the bundles.

The free grip is a promotion from Canon (and Nikon).

The additional $350 savings is due to a mail-in printer rebate. Canon never enforces a MAP price on its printers. (Not even sure they have one).

The dealers are throwing in a few low-cost items and the printers at no extra charge.

These are great deals, but all fall within the confines of MAP.

(It would be interesting to know what, if anything, Canon charges retailers for their printers. I would be willing to bet that they have some type of incentive program that reduces the cost of the printers to less than $0. I say less than $0 because the dealers all ship the printers for free and, as one who has resold these printers, they cost an arm and a leg to ship.)

I wish, the best deal I can find anywhere in the UK is £2997 ($3958) body only from Mifsuds

http://mifsuds.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=11242

If nothing better turns up i'm tempted to go for this deal (it's still way cheaper even without the US rebate and import tax) or a grey market import from Digital Rev's (£2119) body only.

As an aside, it looks like we are finally seeing some small savings on the 24-105 II lens kit. The 24-105 II can be included in the bundle for an additional $900, which is below the $1099 retail price for the lens alone from B&H and Adorama.
