the 6D original camera, should it be in everyone's kit?
« on: January 20, 2018, 10:11:17 AM »
I have a gear problem and I know 😎, but at the end of the day  I don't think I would ever sell my 6D. It's perfect at family events, it's perfect at weddings, portraits. Focusing in low light is no problem. Amazing useful ISO range and best of all it's cheap, cheap, cheap! Does everyone need one as a second camera? It's no wonder can didn't make it even better with the 6D mark II. It's not canons best camera but is it the best camera to round out your kit?

The original 6D is a great camera.  But the new 6DII is a better camera, and is pretty "cheap" now (as far as FF DLSRs go).

Either way, neither is a must-have for a kit.  For starters, a lot of people will prefer APSC, and there's nothing wrong with that...

I know where you are coming from but you'll be sure to get a lot of flak for it around these parts. The average Forum member does not represent the typical Canon user and therefore has a laundry list of why they 'need' much more than the 6D series delivers. I for one, have used the 5D3 from the launch and could have been well served by the much more simplistic 6D yet it was not available at that time.

I might end up upgrading to something like the 6D or 6D mark II by the end of the year....  both those cameras will totally obliterate my ancient 1D mark II (8 megapixel from 2004), and they totally walk all over my friend's 60D as well (a camera I was considering buying a while back when I had a 20D).

We will see how much weight in my overall spending a new camera will have or not.

I'll bet it's a good camera, but I think I'd rather have a 1DX Mark II as my back-up.   ;) Actually considering a 6D as a dedicated m42, FD lens rig.
5D Mark III, Tamron SP 15-30 f/2.8 Di VC, 24-70 F/2.8L II, 70-200 f/2.8L IS II, 35 f/1.4L II, 135 f/2L, m42 screw mount lenses, 600EX-RT (x7), Streaklight 360ws.

The 6D is terrific camera for many uses.  At their used prices now (under $800) now they are an incredible value.  I gifted mine and a 24-70 f/4 IS to my son last year and he really enjoys it.  I occasionally miss it, primarily in low-light situations, but overall, I'm happy with my current cameras (5DsR and a M5).  A 6D would be a great 2nd body for many photographers.

They are a nice weight and size, esp compared to a 1D body. They really shine as a walk around camera that doesn't make you feel weighted down. 6400 ISO with a little bit of post processing looks very good. I ran all around Charleston, sc last summer with it from dawn shots on the Battery to all natural light shots in the museums it was fun light and had tons of battery life to spare.
