Locking Mode Dial.

When upgrading to 1D series I fell in love with the mode buttons. However, a lock for the mode dial would be a major improvement.

did someone say you can hav ethe 5Dmk2 modified to have a lockable mode dial?

Canon can modify the camera for you. In the USA I believe it is a $200 service fee.

It is $100 USD.

One thing I value on my 1D4 is the option to switch modes OFF.
For 99% of my work it's either going to be manual or AV aperture priority.
So I can toggle from one to the other very quickly without taking my eye off the viewfinder. Cool!

When I first got my 60D, I wasn't so keen on the locking dial, but after using it a few times, I really like it.
It's easy to use your pointer on the button then turn with your thumb and middle finger, and this becomes second nature very quickly.
I've also bumped the mode dial accidently on other cameras, so I'm happy the III will have this feature.

    I also had the 60D, but prefer not having the lock on the mode dial. I mainly use my 60D for birding and sometime need to take some video quickly which happen to be on the other end of the dial... the lock made switching to video mode quickly an issue.

This pretty much sums it up for me.  On the 60D, the lock becomes a hindrance if you need to switch to video mode, but that is due to the design of the dial rather than of the lock.  If I was a pro, I would think the locking feature would be a welcome addition.

Real men have buttons instead of amateurish dials on the left shoulder of their DSLRs. Just ask the pros who use one of those hyphenated EOSes.

From a purely cosmetic/atheistic POV, the mode dial screams amateur, but functionality wise it fits the bill and moves easily... maybe too easily.  I'm thrilled the freaking thing has a lock now.
