Any news on the 1D X?!

It's almost a month from the supposed release, and Canon's been dead silent.

No rumors about what's been delaying it. There are no RAW samples yet, and the most I've heard about the release is one person mentioning on dpreview that B&H will get shipment on the 20th of April. When I asked B&H, the customer service rep said there's no such info...

Anyone hear anything about this camera?

The wait has been so long and is getting painful...

I doubt we'll hear much until the dust settles for the 5D3 release (probably some time in April).

By then, there's going to be more information on the pro body and the 24-70 II.

I know right...ive been waiting for news of it day after day, especially after preordering it, was hoping there might be an earlier release date

I wouldn't be surprised to see another month delay.  After all, it takes time to reconfigure the firmware to handle f/8

Yep, I'm waiting for the 1Dx too... I hope we can see the new metering system in action and some RAW files soon.

Hopefully they can change/update/upgrade some of the features based on the feedback they got since they announced the camera in October. After all, why announcing a camera so early if not to get feedback before sealing the camera for market.

Well, we know it's delayed for "development reasons," but I get the feeling it's to fix a problem rather than packing in more or improving features.

Also they need time to ramp up production and amass stock before the release, so I'm sure all features must be baked-in by now.

Ironic that the first new FF that was announced is the last one out. Even the Nikon D4 is out already.

Even if it doesn't have any new features, I'm just hoping for it to work perfectly as described from the start.

Yes, any real news would be nice. 

Although, I agree with the poster above who thinks Canon is letting the 5D III hype run it's course first.  Makes sense to me, since Canon is likely selling 5D IIIs vs. 1D Xs at a radio of 10 to 1? [Pure guess on my part] So there's more to be gained by marketing the 5D III hard.

Yes, that sucks.  That would be my one and only complaint about B&H for us Canadians.

I'm also waiting for the X. I work at a store were we sell them and everything else related. I had a serious go with the D4 today, we have one as a demo-cam. And I gotta say, IQ wise, not that impressed, noise is only slightly better than the mk4 at 1600 iso, but, and there is a big but, the AF is INCREDIBLE, the 1d X have a SERIOUS task to match it. It can't surpass it as I had a 100% hitrate with the D4 combined with the new 85mm. I shot bursts of a bike messenger 20 images shot @ 10fps and every single one was absolutely perfectly focused, and after using the 1d mk3 and 1d mk4 and now (in between) the 5d2 I can safely say that no Canon ever made comes even close to what the D4 did for me today. I had direct greenish (very bright) light directly into the lens and it locked focus like nothing. In very dark conditions (1/40s, f1,8 at 12800 iso) Continous focus locked, no hesitation AT ALL. I was blown away. And I didn't even adjust or fiddle with the AF, simply because that would require hours and hours due the useless menu-system, this is out of the box!

I seriously hope that the 1d X will outclass the mk4 completely (and I think it will) because the D4 AF is astonishing. It made the mk4 look like a toy.... Too bad the button layout and usabillity of the Nikons are suckier than suck....

Funny because my local store also told me the same thing about the D4 today in terms of its AF performance.  You mention the IQ compared to the 1DIV, how would you compare it to the 5DmkII or the mkIII if you have it?

This whole thing makes me really nervous.  Canon announces the 1Dx as the new flagship.  Then Nikon announces the D4.  Then Canon announces, and delivers, the 5DIII.  The D4 is out and being reviewed all over the internet.  The 1Dx?  Nothing.  Has Canon found out that the D4 and D3s are still vastly superior?

I have a feeling it will be a game changer or a disaster.  At this point it can't be average, a marginal improvement over the 1DIV.  Why no news?  Canon is pumping the 5DIII so hard that it will certainly cut heavily into 1Dx sales.  All of this makes me very nervous.

You're missing out one part of the equation: Nikon has yet to deliver the D800 en-masse (and most likely can't for the short term due to the "huge demand" the company noted in the press release). So there isn't much review on the D800 across the board. I wonder how the folks who have ordered D800 feel right now?

As for D4 and D3s being vastly superior? Well, D3s/D4 and the current Canon flagship 1D4 were not exactly in the "same league" (first off, one's an APS-H and the other is an FF). The previous Canon FF flagship was the 1Ds3, so if you're saying that the two bodies beat 1Ds3 downright you have a case.

But the bottom line is: the D4 and 1Dx are not aimed at the mass market. They are flagship professional bodies. and there's not many people who simply fork out US$6,500+ and walk into the shop to pick up the D4 or 1DX. Most people (or companies) who own these bodies are already heavily invested in the respective systems, and would probably prefer to make use of their investments as long as the new bodies can get the job done.

I think it's pretty safe to say that the flagship of Canon and Nikon will be pretty much capable of doing what the other can. There's too much at risk for the companies if otherwise.

Absolutely.  I am really looking forward to it.  I shoot a lot of high speed sports, often in low light, so I am hoping that the AF system of the 1Dx competes.  When I said the D4 and D3s were vastly superior I meant in the area of AF track and high ISO. 

I am way too heavily invested in Canon lenses (10+) to consider any other systems now.
