Just out of interest: are you buying a 1DX?

Absolutely.  I am really looking forward to it.  I shoot a lot of high speed sports, often in low light, so I am hoping that the AF system of the 1Dx competes.  When I said the D4 and D3s were vastly superior I meant in the area of AF track and high ISO.

I am way too heavily invested in Canon lenses (10+) to consider any other systems now.

Yes, definitely AF tracking and ISO are the strong fields for Nikon's camera (I still remember how shocked I was when I saw the image of a crisp-sharp image from a Cirque-du-soleil performance back in the days of D3...).

I guess the good news is that if the 5D3 indicates anything, Canon's grasp on high ISO performance looks promising. According to the review in the March issue of Asahi Camera magazine, ISO 51,200 on the 1Dx is on pars with ISO 12,800 on the 1D4.

As for their advances in AF-tracking... I don't know if there's anything that hints at the degree of improvement we can expect from the redesigned AF sensors (save those listed on paper).

An interesting note is that there's six default parameters ("cases") for the 1DX AI Servo - available in the menu and each geared toward different types of sports (track, tennis, skating, etc.) - makes life easier for intermediate shooters who aren't familiar with custom settings in the AF configuration tools.

I think the DR of the D4 look better than the 5d2, and less chroma noise, but this is purley my opinion, not done anything to test them in the same setting at all. Just wanted to point that out. And over 1600 the D4 is better.

YES, I am buying a 1d X, man, I'm really annoyed by these comments and even threads of people asking me if I can afford to get a 1d X ... If you want I'll post a copy of my bankstatement if you care so damn much if I have the money or not, I'll be VERY sure to post a picture of me, my 1d X, the receipt with my name AND that days newspaper when it arrives, just to shut you up.

lol  ;D

can't say too much about the 1dx, I think i had maybe 45 minutes of playing around in total with it so far (mind you, all CPS copies of course, not my own ;)). AF seemed quite improved over the 1D mk IV, but of course we'll have to see how it performs once it's out.

for now, I'm quite happy with that 5d3 to test, and hopefully by the time the 1dx will release I know if it's going to be another 5d3 or the 1dx which I still have on pre-order.

I think the reason why we haven't seen any RAW 1D X sample images is because they are going to be so amazing that the guys wo bought a 5D mkIII is going to regret it, and buy a 1D X as well. So Canon can make double $$$  ;D

You just don't see any RAW images, because Canon want to have an ability to change RAW processing algorithm any time. Camera is not released yet, so it's not wise to release different versions of RAW files.

I agree.

And also, the availability is months away for normal people anyway. June is what I've been told. This is, of course, because of the damn Olympics....

Until today, the official release date for the 1Dx is April 30th in Japan.

But of course, it may change, since (for example) Canon already changed the release date of 5Dm3 from March 29th to March 22nd just 10 days ago!  ;)

Yeah been checking google for 1D X news daily too, seen some amazing videos from it. Waiting for this low iso, dying to get my hands on it :) I am not a pro, just love photography, been shooting all my life, what I love is not 14fps but the low iso. Wish canon integrated gps in it :( cant beleive they still using usb 2.0 :( it blows. Oh well. I dont think they will introduce anything new from what they already anounced, just bug fixes and stability was the focus over past couple of months, so dont hope for anything thats not on their web :)

When I did play with 1D X back in october 2011 in NYC show it had this follow focus where you could lock on someones face and it would keep it sharp, remember it has one processor dedicated to AF, so I just hope it will be amazing in real life shooting. When I was playing during the showI had no access to images so have no idea how many of them were good or bad, but will see soon I hope. I am just waiting for the iso, love to shoot without flash, so low iso is going to be the key for me and if AF will perform I'll be very happy. :)

I don't understand the problem of having USB2 only. I personally would have gone without a USB connection at all. First, most people with 1 serie cameras copy their cards using card reader. Second, the 1Dx has a freakin Eternet port! So if you want to transfer your files using a wired camera and up to 100 meters away, there you have it.

Canon probably made the Eternet port so that it could also be used to manage setting on the camera, debug the software, update the firmware, etc. So I really wonder why there is still a USB connection on the 1Dx. They should have save this space and put a headphone out connection instead...

This whole thing makes me really nervous.  Canon announces the 1Dx as the new flagship.  Then Nikon announces the D4.  Then Canon announces, and delivers, the 5DIII.  The D4 is out and being reviewed all over the internet.  The 1Dx?  Nothing.  Has Canon found out that the D4 and D3s are still vastly superior?

I have a feeling it will be a game changer or a disaster.  At this point it can't be average, a marginal improvement over the 1DIV.  Why no news?  Canon is pumping the 5DIII so hard that it will certainly cut heavily into 1Dx sales.  All of this makes me very nervous.

Just out of interest: are you buying a 1DX?

I certainly am buying a 1DX and have one on pre-order already.  That said, I do feel a little bit of the nervousness from our friend ronderick here as well.  As someone else said, this will either bow us out of the water or feel like a big disappointment.

Am not sure I buy the 5DmkIII spotlight as a reason for no 1DX info yet.  As people start to rave about the D4, Canon should react to shut them - at least surprising their marketing team is so quite.

I attended a Canon information night yesterday & was told, (in fact it was displayed on the video presentation), that the release date would be no earlier than May the 15th.  :(
