Hey,

I post here very rarely, but thought I'd share a recent shot of one of my favourite subjects. Location Kuusamo, Finland. Taken with the 5d mk 3 and the Tokina 11-16 wide angle which works fine at 16mm on full frame. Well the corners get soft, but I'm not a pixel peeping kinda person.

The Aurora season is starting strong, more on my fb- photoblog https://www.facebook.com/Julkoske :)

Awesome!!!
Indeed!  Quite Awesome!
I'm aiming to be in Norway in March to get another chance photographing the Aurora. Finland was productive for me in February, but I didn't get anything over water. There's something about the water shots that adds an extra dimension.

I've made a number of (unsuccessful) attempts at photographing dragonflies in flight, but never butterflies for some reason. I can't imagine they're much easier, especially timing-wise. You've caught the wings just about right I think.

Thanks Richard, I've finally got the much sought after Dragonfly in flight too!!  Just got them a couple of days ago, I'll be posting soon.

As for the BIF Butterfly, it's been trying to get such a capture as well, certainly not as easy as a Bald Eagle with a 6 foot wingspan, floating across the heavens!  I've only gotten two butterflies in flight so far and just one dragonfly, but I got him several times, I'm looking forward to getting them off my CF card and processing... Thanks again!

This is a great shot.  Was that reflection real or added in post?
Thank you Pinchers, The reflection is real.  Nothing added in post.  I did remove a couple of little nubby looking things that were floating in the water...  It was close to the Golden hour and the little lagoon where the feather was floating was reflecting a lot of the surrounding flora and fauna and was desperately losing ambient light... I was about 100' away.  Wasn't sure what it was floating so I tried to grab a photo just to see what it was... I thought it was pretty cool too!

Thanks again and all the best!

That's 3 more than I've got, I'll look forward to the dragonflies. I've missed out on the wildlife this year, due to the stresses of work, so I must make the most of the autumn visitors.

Indeed and I'm sure you'll make good of those Autumn visitors!  Next year is not too far off, so perhaps the next crop of wildlife will prove itself a great subject given your stressful work situation lets up a bit!   :-\

Thanks Ken. I'll be on my way up to Scotland in a few days, so a few days escape, then it's off to the Lofoten Islands next March for a 10 day trip. They should ease the stress a bit and things should hopefully quieten down a bit at work (at least I won't have to interview for my own job again :P). I just have to find time to take the 22 or so remaining days leave I'm owed :P.
