I've been shooting with the 5D3 for a while now since the shipment of the first batch and have begun to get used to a non-gripped body... Is this bad?  :o

No, half the point of the 5D3 is that it is ungripped.

what if the 3rd party battery grips came out before the canon one does? :P How do they make them anyways, do they have to dissect the originals and re create them cheaper? I got a cheap one for my t2i and it works great except the battery indicator does not work, it just goes from full to dead(not a huge deal as I have a feel for when it is about to happen anyways). does this happen with other 3rd party grips as well?

My guess would be that 3rd party grip manufacturers would have to first get their hands on an authentic Canon grip and reverse engineer it.  Once they have reverse engineered the design, they then need to make some sort of distinguishable modification from the authentic Canon grip in order to legally sell it. Regrading your problem with your T2i grip, I have a few friends that use off-brand grips for various other Canon bodies and their battery level indicator doesn't accurately read either.  However, I think this might be a problem with running off-brand batteries and not necessarily the grip.
