5D MK III Sharpness Test

My new 5D MK III came last night, I played with it a bit, but to get the best sharpness, I need to AFMA my lenses.
 
So, for a sharpness test, I tethered the camera to a pc, with my 100mm L macro and took two shots that were focused using live focus, which is usually about as good as you can get.  focus point was the AF / MA switch.
 
One image at f/2.8 and one at f/5.6.  Then, I cropped the focus point to 100%.
 
I converted the raw images to dng using Adobe DNG converter 6.7 Release Candidate 1
 
The results were sharp as expected.
 
100mm L at f/2.8 ISO 100 (1/80 sec for f/2.8 and 1/25 sec for f/5.6) Sharpening and NA set to zero, but lens correction and CA removal was on.  I don't see that they need sharpening.

Excellent Sharpness!!


I have not AFMA'ed my 180mm macro either but am happy with handheld results.

1st pic is the whole frame (resized) and second is 100% crop (un-resized).

My, oh my, those leaves are sharp!  Was there any post processing?

I do not remember doing any sharpness to the leaves.

However for the following one there was a bit of PP Sharpening done but tells you how much detail can be extracted from the 5d3.

Shot 1 is a crop of a flower (12mp crop) showing some pollen fallen on the petal.

Shot 2 is a further crop of the same picture showing the details/ shape of the Pollen, zoomed in.

These were shot on a Macro rail with MF on a EF 180mm F3.5 L.

Mt. Spokane - I love how you can see the deformation in the phillips head screw from tightening!  Incredible!

They all look terrible. Its obvious that light was leaking through the LCD.  You must have forgotten to turn your backlight off...
