The 7DmkII will it be a revolution or an evolution

One thing you have to understand about japanese firms is that they are incredibly conservative and reactionary.  Every time a CEO who is not Japanese takes over a Japanese firm they comment on this.

The only way that it would be revolutionary is if Nikon crop cameras were destroying them.  If that doesn't happen I would only expect minor improvements, but Canon will tell you the opposite (just like they are doing with the 5Diii).

I wouldn't call 9pt AF with a single cross-type to 61pt AF with 41 cross-type and 5 double cross-type, a 6fps frame rate, nor native ISO 25600 "minor" improvements...

The difference between the 5D III and the D800 is not that one has a bunch of minor improvements and one has a bunch of HUGE improvements. The simple difference is that the D800 has a neatly packaged "headline" feature...36.3mp. Thats it. The 1D X stole the 5D III's thunder with its ISO 51200, but that doesn't make the 5D III's major improvements "minor". They just aren't "headlines".

There is not a whole lot to change.  Sensor improvements are very hard to come by, so a 1/2 to 3/4 stop improvement would be a best case.  The new Digic 5+ might give more fps, assuming they redesigned the mirror.  The battery power also limits fps, so it might require a grip to get enough power to get a faster frame per second speed.
 
There might be some video improvements like the 5D MK III, but do not expect much, considering the $2000 price.

I don't want to start another one of those threads.
What ever the next high end (pro, semi pro) aps-c camera (7DII) the trend is to up the price.
To justify this, improvements will have to be made.
My guess is that refinements to the sensor and autofocus (also AI Servo) will be made along with dual digic 5+ chips, refinements to weather sealing, and metering (AWB)
When the the 7D came out it was a big deal, a pro body with an APS-C sensor.
Unless there is a breakthough in sensor design my gut says the next "7D" will move forward at about the same rate as the 5DIII did vs 5DII

I guess I wasn't very clear.  I'm not saying that the 5Diii ionic had minor changes, but as a whole it w only a minor update, especially after three years.

Major improvements would have been much higher MP while still having great low light capabilities.  It would have also included things like 1080p 60 fps.

So like I said initially, the new 5D is in no way revolutionary.  It has had some very nice improvements, but it's been three years, nice improvements are the minimum to be expected.

Either way, it's an awesome camera.  There probably isn't much that really needs to be done to it, but the iii was basically just an update and not a revolutionary release.

I would postulate that it will be an evolution... I honestly don't know how it would be changed to be revolutionary.  I believe it is still the best crop camera available (Build quality, FPS, and Resolution). When I think about it, there isn't much that I would specifically change.  Faster processor? Better sensor if available?  What would make it "revolutionary" to you?

Does every single new product ever have to be a friggin revolutionary game changer?  Does it have to "shake up the industry" and "blow your mind?"  Is this really what it's come to?  I think a lot of people have unreasonable expectations with technology nowadays.  The rumors show up years before the product so there is just too much time for the hype to build.  People start speculating what it'll be like and before you know it they get set on what they wish the camera would be and are disappointed by any differences in the actual product.

I certainly don't think that every update has to be a game changer.  I agree that it's unrealistic to expect every release to be one.  I think a lot of people were just bummed over the 5Diii, so a lot of questions are being asked.  I think it's a great camera, but a lot of people wanted a lot more.  I can't really blame them either since it's canons most famous/loved camera and the update was three years in the making.

Evolution.  New sensor, new processors, new screen, CF plus SD, locking mode dial, and a few other teaks.  My guess, and it is just that, minor things plus a new sensor will be the next 7D.   As long as the sensor has significant improvements (ISO, DR, and noise) that will be more than sufficient. 

Oh and yes, a new price.

Grow up. Your constant trolling on every discussion about the 7D is getting more than a bit tiresome. We all know you dislike the 7D. Your entitled to your opinion, but hijacking every discussion ruins it for others.
