Author Topic: Does the 5DIII come with a screen protector 'pre-attached' to LCD?  (Read 2305 times)

Just curious because I just got my 5DIII (awesome btw, a huuuge upgrade from my 40D) and I noticed that the LCD screen didn't have a protective static cling screen protector stuck on it (like many electronic products to keep the screen pristine while in the box).  I wanted to make sure that Canon just isn't putting them on the 5DIII, and not that my box was a customer return.

No it does not.  Not sure there is a lot of third party yet that can out with protector for the screen either but that should happen soon.  A friend of mine actually used an iphone protector and cut it to the dimension of his screen!

I think the OP was talking about the disposable 'throw away' protector that's commonly found on LCDs when new in the package - my iPhones and iPads (relatively recent purchases) had them.  Sometimes they are clear, sometimes blue, but they're intended to protect during packing and shipping and then removed by the customer and discarded.  It's been long enough since I unboxed my 7D and 5DII that I don't recall if there were protectors on them.

No, there is no protector.  One nice thing about the screen on the new 5D3 vs older versions is that the screen is glass so it is far more resistant to scratching.  It is also permanently bonded to the screen behind it so the flip side to this is that it is not user replaceable like the plastic ones.

Mine came with a screen protector, an upholstered leather presentation box, two tickets to the upcoming UK tour of Starlight Express, and a handwritten note from the CEO of Canon expressing his eternal gratitude for my custom and an assurance that I'll be able to reconfigure all the buttons in a future firmware update.

Damn it, no! That explains the enclosed photo of the Mercedes SL63.

I'm gonna send this POS back.

I have seen a couple posts that mention there would not be a serious a need to cover/protect the LCD because the glass was replaceable.  And I have seen at least one other mentioning it was not.  Is that confirmed t.linn?

I ask because I have used the glass GGS protectors on other cameras and originally had planned to order one for the mkIII when available.

I was told that there was some kind of "protector" that comes with the camera straight out of the factory but i never saw any on my camera either…I used the Nintendo DS protector for 2 weeks before changing to a glass type protector that was just released yesterday in Singapore called Hercules..i believe other brands should be hitting hte markets pretty soon as well.

When i got my 1100D there was no screen protection thingie on it also. No clear plastic or anything.
1100D + 50mm 1.8 II + Flektogon 35mm 2.8 Zebra + m42 135mm 2.8 + m42 200mm 3.5 + Eos 300 analog + Seagull 6x6.
I really love shooting film but i dont develop it myself and im still using digital mostly for convenience. if i die im ready for it.
