5d MK3 Shows horizontal and vertical lines!

There are only horizontal lines. Vertical lines are from ad-wall stitching.

I was not aware of that risk - does it apply only to video or also stills?

Ya, I am going to have to research this now! I don't really shoot video, but I photograph weddings and events all year long, and lots of DJs use lights like that - scary!!

I've been shooting digital professionally for the better part of a decade and never knew of this issue, but then again, i rarely shoot at nightclubs/concerts and weddings aren't really my thing... and I dont specialize in weddings so i guess I haven't been exposed to this kinda thing enough to have had it become a problem.  Thanks for the info on this... Guess you learn new stuff every day.

As far as video or stills - it's the same parts, but with stills your mirror is only up (exposing the sensor) for brief moments.  I suppose if you happen to take a still at the exact moment a laser passes over your lens/sensor, it could happen.

Is there any filter like the UV or something to stop the laser waves from affecting the sensor?

Wow  wasn't even aware of this risk. Well...I guess I know now where NOT to bring my camera! Learn something new every day I suppose...

A laser does that permanently to a sensor!! blimy if so that should be in the manual

well yes ....and hot soup will burn your tongue.

If Canon rejects repair request, and if you paid by credit card, depending on the card, the card could cover repairs. There will be an admin paperwork hill to climb, though

Did you burn it with a laser already? If not, I think this is very weird.

This is really interesting to me. Has anyone in this forum performed any sort of Light Painting? I've been itching to try but this has me sketched out. Is there a special type of lighting that is recommended for use so the sensor isn't harmed? Are LED's acceptable or will this same problem arise?

Yikes.....

LEDs are fine for light painting as are just about anything else - just don't use lasers and point them at your sensor.  (bummer for the OP - hope it works out OK)

Wow, good to know. With new low-light capabilities of 5D3, it'll be tempting to shoot around in dark areas where those lasers just pop out of nowhere.
