So, 15-60 on a crop body would be 24-96. That's like having 24-105/4L on a FF body, but a stop faster at 2.8!
If Canon can do at least the quality of 17-55, this lens would be a killer, perfect for everyone from pros to travelers.
But will it truly replace 17-55? The current retail price for 17-55 is $1,179. If the rumors about this lens are true, will the price be around $1,200?
When the 15-85 was first released, it was supposed to replace 17-85. However, the original retail price for 15-85 was like $900 or so and the 17-85 was taken out of the Canon website for a little while. Many didn't feel like it was a replacement, but more like an upgrade both in terms of range-wise and quality-wise (and price-wise). For the price-wise, I understand that it's generally more costly at the wide side than the tele side. So, that's quite understandable.
If the 15-60 indeed comes out, the price may top $1,500. And, so, I am not so sure if I would ditch my 17-55 for this new lens.
