I mainly take landscape, portrait, and wedding photos.
The main reason is I will be focusing on wedding photography, so I need the one that take nice portrait and fast.
Are you going as the professional wedding photographer, a second shooter, or uncle Bob ?
If the former, you need at least two bodies and really should have a decent hot shoe mounted flash. Both the bodies should be xxD or better. (buy used if your budget is tight, need not be the latest model). They don't need to be full frame, but full frame would really help. Lenses -- the faster the better. Rent if you can't afford to buy.
If you're uncle Bob, you can use whatever gear is the most fun to use. For me this would be whatever body I happened to own, fast primes and a decent flash.
