The older guy's acting (I actually can imagine him playing a part in a "commercial" motion picture, which is good) is a couple levels over the second guy, which makes it a little uncomfortable for me to look at. Hopefully in your feature (as I understood the older guy is Vincent) has a lot more screen time than the younger one.
And not even the fact that he is supposed to be a rookie helps. His lines are too simple. Since he doesn't talk much, may be it would be better if this scene was a monologue, and the other guy could concentrate more on the facial expressions instead.
Other than that, this is very well done under the circumstances that you described.
