I am not a professional and haven't reached the skillset required to take photos with my lens cap on, so I am sitting on the sideline and watching with amuse.

Well, "inspection" is just a smart wording to avoid sounding like they made a mistake. The announcement in Taiwan and China Mainland uses the word "repair", and a canon rep confirmed that if you send your camera in, they will open the camera and add a small part that blocks the light leak.

Canon Europe will prepare a "Fix-Kit" for all defective Cameras starting mid may. The Service Center will have work 2h on each camera.

So there is a real issue :-) :D

Since there are discrepancies between the various advisories, we should ask Canon for clarification.

So Canon USA: Is there a fix? Will/Did you do anything to correct this for newer units?

I just can't take it seriously enough... It's a 1/3 of a stop difference in exposure, that might happen in low light environments, when you have the LCD screen backlight activated. Yes, it does suck that a $3700 CAD camera was allowed to ship to customers with a such a seemingly avoidable mistake. If someone chooses to send in their camera, I really wouldn't hold it against them (again, for what they paid). However I am feeling like this is a lot of stink over not a whole lot.

I never use the camera's meter for night shoots anyway - usually just trial and error a few because the camera usually wants to bring levels up to daylight.  so... no
