You've inspired me to share my image of Black Beach in San Diego.  I like this image so much that I printed it and have it hanging in my house.  It constantly amazes me that I took it with a Canon SD600, even now that I have much more advanced equipment.

That is a very nice shot and it shows the great color reproduction and tonal qualities that Canon Powershots can be capable of. Thanks for sharing :)
+1 :)

My old beat up Soviet era Helios 44-2 rarely disappoints me.  It looks like garbage but takes amazing pictures:

Taken with a Rebel "g" with a 35-80 4-5.6 iii.  ISO 200 kodak gold film, I paid more for the film than the camera. Camera and lens was $5 at a flea market, but I had to repair the lens, as the internals were cocked sideways and jammed.

Cool, that's real photography on budget :)

The worst lens ever! haha
-magnifying glass
-pringles can
-electrical and duct tape
-25mm extension tube for a mount
I dont know which looks worse....
fixed focal length (i would guess about 135mm) but the worst part is the fixed FOCUS distance haha. I've heard of zooming with your feet, but what about focusing?
If i had painted the inside flat black instead of being reflective it probably wouldnt have been that bad

Awesome, manufacturing one's own camera out of duct tape!

I love the idea.  Maybe I'll try my hand at medium format one rainy weekend...

What did you use for a shutter?  The lid of the Pringles can?

I'm sorry I did not specify, I hooked it up to my 60 and shot in manual mode. Only a cheap lens on an expensive body. The EXIF data says 50mm because the chip in the extension tube I used reports at 50mm

Helios 44-2 - if I could own only one of my vintage glass collection, it would be this one.

Lets say this is a little bit of old and a little bet of new.  My A7 II test pictures with Canon FD 35f2 SSC II.  Taken yesterday at JSC Rocket Park.  I find it remarkable how much this lens picked up on Ebay for $50 performs like a modern lens.

7D II, 60D, Rebel XS + some Canon lenses, A7II + Sony + some Sony lenses, OMD EM1,OMD EM5 + some m43 lenses, adapters and Fd and M42 lens.  Sold 6D,Nex6,EOS M1

What's even more amazing is that those engines were drawn by hand and calculations done with a slide rule...

I used to work with a Rolls Royce Aero engine designer, he said before CAD they wouldn't pre draw the pipework but give the roughed up engine to the senior fitters with instructions as to what went where, those fitters then worked out the best way to route all the pipework and their initial pipes were then taken off and drawn up and manufactured.

I always found that interesting.
Too often we lose sight of the fact that photography is about capturing light, if we have the ability to take control of that light then we grow exponentially as photographers. More often than not the image is not about lens speed, sensor size, DR, MP's or AF, it is about the light.
