This was a really good thread! So good it made me register to the CR forum(about time, considering i visit CR everyday).
There is one person that came to my mind when i read this. The Swedish photograper Anders Peterssen.
Last summer i worked at one of his exhibition and i thought of course he had used some expensive gear for his work. But
then i found out he uses a Contax T3, compact analog camera for most of his work! Anders is a photographer who captures
the ugly moments in life and converts it into art and for him it's more what you capture and not what you capture with.
Check out some of his work at http://www.anderspetersen.se/selectedworks.html or just Google his name.

Sorry for the bad grammar (I'm from Sweden aswell) but i'm sure you understand me anyway ;)

This thread was a great idea. I am enjoying the great images generated by a hodge podge of cameras. I owned a couple and still feel fond of them.

My brother shot these in Burkina Faso with my old 10D and an 18-55 kit lens (with the EF-S bit hacked off):

The woman in the grass might be with the 70-300 IS USM I gave him (gold ring, not DO or L), but most are with the 18-55.

York Castle Museum during the Illuminating York Festival 2011. Taken on my 550D. The photo of Debbie Harry was taken on my Fuji DMC-FZ18 in July 2011. We were fairly near the stage so I made full use of the 18x zoom.

Great shot! How do you get the flash to pop right as the projectile is hitting the tomato?

Yeah, it's one of his favorites too.  The kids there really get a kick out of just about anything they can really play with as most of their "toys" are usually bits of things that are too broken to fix or otherwise be made useful.  My brother brought a few deflated soccer balls along with him when he went down there & pumped them up & gave them out as prizes for the best grades in school, & he was a hero for it (well that & plenty of other cool stuff he did but you get the idea).  Being a good Southerner he also taught them how to fry chicken :-).

Another interesting thing about that trip was that most of the candid shots he was able to take were of kids, not just because he was working at a school, but because older folks in some of the more remote villages believe that cameras steal your soul, whereas the kids love the attention & are very curious.  Once he took a few shots from the car while they were driving through a village & someone chased after them shouting & waving his arms for about a mile before giving up.

Well, after seeing some of the posts in this thread, I'm rather hesitant to contribute myself  :-\

All of these were taken on my first camera, a Rebel Xsi. What a trusty camera she was, I swear it metered better than my newer bodies.

This is composed of 16 different images stitched together in photoshop.
