60d, not sure if old enough, but cheaper than 5d iii :-)

I love seeing images taken with crop sensors that stomp what lesser photographers can take with a full-frame body :) This is coming from a full-frame guy. I don't know many pros that start their careers with a huge budget, and as expensive as camera gear is, crop bodies are a great gateway for pros to get started in their business endeavors. Of course, that makes them great for hobbyists as well.

Great shots. The city scape is very nicely done.

The Happening

Taken with old fuji film camera . . the kind where you had to hold down the green button to charge the camera for another shot. . . Damn we're so spoiled these days!

thanks :-) , these newer crop cameras t3i/60d/7d are great alternatives with 90% the image quality for less than half the price.

First shot: Golden Gate Bridge at night. Canon T21 w/Canon EF-S 15-85mm. Tripod? Nah, just rested the camera on a wooden railing.

Second shot: Musical still life. Canon G11, handheld from the front row.

All very high tech! ;)

Here is a Horrible Camera, I Present the Kodak DC3200 1 Megapixel camera! Its Terrible! No control over exposure what so ever! Not even an exposure comp setting! :o I always have to trick the camera by pointing at another area and exposing for another scene!

This thread just makes me want to start a contest where everyone has to use the same horrible camera and present their best image with no post-production.

Something like the new cardboard Ikea digital camera would be perfect... it'll probably sell for something like $8.  http://www.petapixel.com/2012/04/24/cardboard-digital-camera-by-ikea/

"Old, cheap gear" doesn't mean SLR to me.  ;D

Before I went into DSLR I used a variety of compact PnS cameras for everyday shooting. I enjoyed the immediacy of the results and often like to explore their limitations.  Especially handy when shooting night scenes.

Hang glider launching was shot with a 2MP Canon PowerShot A20 - and it made the cover of a magazine in 2002.

Colorful little flowers were shot with a Panasonic DMC-LZ1 - I bought it new in a box for $100 at a clearance sale at my local camera shop, a very fun little camera with the stabilized 6x zoom but it didn't run for long on 2 AA batteries.

aurora was shot from my backyard with a 2MP Canon PowerShot A40 - YAY!  It had a manual mode!  which is why I upgraded to it from the A20

Lightning strikes were shot with a 5MP Canon PowerShot A610 using a cheap tripod I had with me while travelling.  I made a lot of use of this little camera, it was very capable and I still pull it out on occasion.

Hmmm... I still have ALL these oldies, not really worth the effort to sell them.

FANTASTIC SHOTS!!

I agree... this is a legendary post in the making.

Big up to everyone posting shots on this thread. There's just too many great shots to even both picking specific ones.

I second that remark. If I tried to single out all the great images posted here, all you'd see is a bunch of redundant "that's a sweet shot" posts.

These images have restored my faith in the online photographic community. For every person harping on tech specs and speculating how those specs might affect their photography in theory, there seems to be many others using their gear to the fullest for its intended purpose: creating beautiful art :)

I think the Ikea camera contest thingy is a great idea as well! If it happens, there will be some stiff competition indeed!
