Many thanks to all you guys for your encouraging comments ! Here are a couple more from to day; the baby's getting bigger.

First is 50/.4 @ f2 and the second is my ubiquitous 24-105L at about 90mm, f4. Both had fill bounced off the ceiling.

Sporgon,
Beautiful, something to be proud of, a nice family!
One thing that came into my mind:
Since your daughter sends to you expensive pets shortly after getting it, you might suggest that she should have an 800 mm f/5.6 lens for a pet.  Pretty soon, she'll off load it onto you.  ;D ;D ;D
Hope you have a great time with the grand kid! 8)

Congrats.  Enjoy the family.

So, with my tongue firmly implanted in my cheek (for those of you on this thread who are international, that is a saying meaning I am trying to be funny and don't mean what I am saying) you actually now have a very useful alibi for your G.A.S.  You really need that new camera equipment to get better photos of the baby!

 ;) ;) ;)

Good thinking JPAZ ! On your advice I've told my wife I need a 5Ds so I can get both mother and baby in focus at the same time !

Many thanks, that's very kind of you.

Here's a shot of mother and daughter plus the offending dog. Despite my efforts to bundle it her car discretely when she left, she spotted it.

This dog does my street cred no good at all. In fact on more than one occasion when walking it I've been chatted up - by blokes.

Congratulations!!

Many thanks SPL. Great to be able to hand a baby back !

Here's some of the latest additions to the album:

The first two are the EF 50 f/1.4 @ f1.8

The last two were shot with my very old Nikkor f/2 via an adapter @ f2 I remember this lens as being the best 50 I'd ever used, and when actually using it again thought maybe I was remembering it through rose tinted glasses.

It is soft at f2, with a fair bit of veiling and coma, but at f4 to 5.6 it is stunning, right across the frame. Easily out-resolves the 5DII sensor, with better contrast too, but that's the topic for a different thread.

Thanks Lion Rock. Just realised that there aren't really any showing the baby; I don't want to be accused of photographing everything but the baby, so here is one of the baby doing what babies do.

5DII, ISO 160, 1/2500 sec, f2, filled with high speed sync and a tissue taped over the flash.

Caught glimpses of the baby.
She's lucky to have you as the grand dad!  There will be a lot of memories from you, I'm sure.
Keep it up, the little bundle will grow fast.
