5D MK3 Image Difference on LCD and DPP
« on: May 21, 2012, 01:52:27 AM »
I'm a new 5D MK3 user (have been using 30D for 5 years).
I found that there's a huge difference between the image preview (RAW) on the rear LCD and in DPP. The LCD preview just has much higher contrast, saturation and sharpness (either zoom in or out) over the one opened in DPP, even if I apply the same picture style in DPP.

I know I can adjust the above parameter to my preference but it's a lot different from my past experience. or it's just that the mk3 has a much brighter / higher contrast LCD?

The setting is as follows:

File: RAW
NR: Normal
Picture Style:Landscape (i.e. sharpness +4, saturation 0, contrast 0)
DPP Version: 3.11.26

Thank you in advance.

I believe the difference is in the screens. If you look at the same image on iPad, for instance, you'll see the same color / contrast / saturation difference.

As noted on the other forum, you can't use the LCD as a good indicator of your image. Process your image and use that. Ignore the LCD when it comes to exactly what an image looks like.

Print your images if you want to get an idea of what they should look like! ;)

You're not looking at the RAW image, you're looking at a jpg preview image processed in-camera and stored within the RAw container.  That jpg is converted using the picture style and other settings (e.g. ALO) that you have set on the camera, and note that the jpg is used to generate the histogram, too.
