Weather Sealing for EOS cameras

Or is this just a case of drinking too much Canon kool-aid?

The 1DsIII white paper indicates that environmental sealing is one of the improvements compared to the 1DsII. Maybe you consider that Canon kool-aid, though. Regardless, even if the 1DsII is no better than the EOS-1V, the current 1-series are better than that.

Sorry, I missed this.
The comparative measuring points that we have are:
--- Quote ---FWIW, the weather sealing of the 5DII and 50D is described by Canon as, "...almost the equal of the EOS-1N."
--- End quote ---
and your comment above. We also know that the 1V is better than the 1N and that the 1D series is better than those under it.
So what do we know in terms of weather sealing?
1V > 1N > (5DII, 50D)
1Ds3 > 1Ds2
However in terms of cost:
50D < 1V < 1N < 5DII
Are there any proclamations that allow the 1D series weather sealing to be compared with prior 1 series cameras?
One is given to wonder if "better weather sealing" will be something that each new generation of camera delivers like Canon keep claiming "2 stops better JPEGs".

Coming from the cycling world I would have used Sheldon Brown!

On specs you cannot nail down in the testing lab, it's is good practice in every industry to append some marketing talk to every new release. Afaik there are environmental testing standards for computer equipment, is there any way to really compare sealing across different bodies?

Of course, but it would cost whoever does it a fair amount as they would probably have to push each body to the death or close to that point. But identical rain simulation, heavier rain, sumbersion etc can all be tested.
PeterJ:
For industrial systems the IP rating is common:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Code
But for warranties if Canon rated a camera at say IP64 and tested as such how would they really know when processing a warranty claim if it was subjected to conditions that needed IP66 or more? For consumer / low-budget (relatively) professional products there would be a lot of incentive to say you'd only used the gear in heavy rain briefly, when you'd really dropped it in water or been outside in rain for hours.
