Weather Sealing for EOS cameras
smithy:
Well if I had to shoot in heavy rain, I would prefer to take my 1V out in it rather than my 5D3. The 1V still feels more 'pro' in the hand (ie, durable, with visible rubber gaskets for weather sealing) than the 5D3. But of course, with rain often comes poor lighting, and that's where the 1V loses...
I've used my 40D in heavy rain, and the thing that always stops working on it first is the joystick. Once this happens, I just carry on shooting and when I've finished I just put it somewhere warm and dry for a while and it's fine after that.

My 5D3 stopped working while using it in some rain. I was using it with the 24-70mm F2.8 L on it.
This has never happened with my 5D2 or 7D, which I have used in even worse conditions.
Luckily it could be repaired.. Costs 270 EURO, not covered by warranty... I won't take my 5D3 out in the rain anymore.
Wondering if I just had a bad camera or if it's a problem with all 5D3's....

Imho doesn't mean anything, you might have been lucky with the 5d2/7d or unlucky with the 5d3.
Where did the water leak in, and what did they replace/rapair (not much I guess, because labor is about 200$ standard fee for picking up the screwdriver)?

The repair report only quoted:"Waterdamage" and replacement part:"PCB"... Which can basically mean anything.

Hmmm... did you dry your camera after you used in rain - in dry rice, silicon packs or equivalent?
