Canon BG-E11 Grip Unboxing! Including Fitment Pictures

Got my grip today from Allen's Camera... This is the nicest grip Canon has released yet. Fitment is seamless. No play between the body/grip, feels great in the hand, buttons feel identical to main body. The joystick on the grip does sit farther away then on the body, so you have to do some muscle-memory relearning when switching to use the grip  Makes the 5D3 feel extremely sold, I love it...  Same excellent soft grippy material as the body, the curves are a big improvement on the old boxy grips.

They did include a new carrying pouch for the extra battery magazine.

Very happy with the purchase though! I think it did deserve a price increase relative to the previous generation grips (5D2 grip was what, $240?)... I don't know if it was $100 more deserving, $50 may have been more fair... But either way, I am happy with my purchase.

It's a genuine grip...I got mine yesterday and it's logo free.
But wow, this thing is BIG! Back to back with my 1D Mk4 the 5D3 with BG-E11 is taller, thicker and feels bigger in the hand. I'll put them both on the scales later but the weight difference isn't that much.

Mostly I use 1-Series bodies, my last 5D was the Classic. The 5D3 with BG-E11 is way bigger. The 5D series has grown!

Later: OK here are the weights. Are you ready for this? The 1D Mk4 with battery is 1375 grams and the 5D Mk3 with BG-E11 & two batteries is a beefy 1406 grams. Wow! I used to pack the old 5D as a lighter weight option.

Looks like a great fit but I'm a little blown away that it weighs more than the 1D Mark IV.

There is no text on the front anymore. Same goes with the BG-E7, BG-E8 and BG-E9.

Probably a dumb question but can you put a plate for a tripod on the grip, i.e. is there a screw opening for it?

Yes there is a screw just like the one on the base of the body. But I have a feeling it's not quite as rigidly anchored as the one on the body. On the old 5D grip I over-tightened the hex screw while attaching a SpiderPro plate. At first I thought I'd stripped the thread but in fact I'd torn the entire thread away from the body of the grip. At CPS it was a $160 repair so I went for an eBay Meike grip which performed flawlessly for a couple of years.

But don't let this put anyone off...the leverage I had with the hex/allen key gave me far more oomph than was strictly needed. It's just something to be aware of.

I just got mine today, feels very good to hold.

but I don't understand what the bag is for? It's too small for the grip so I assume it is to hold the battery tray.

Bag is for the  spare AA battery compartment. 350 is far too much for this thing but to each their own!
