If the earlier rumour of 18MP sensor comes true, I would imagine it is exactly the same sensor we've seen before. If they make a new sensor, it wouldn't be 18MP.

exactly my thoughts...  ;)

yeah video.... how exciting

It's a broad church pal.  I don't use spot metering or PIC modes, but I don't grudge their presence for the folks that do.

We stuck in a digic 5 Processor and guess what it does? Virtually nothing but we can give it some new badges.

... I did this poll because a few month ago, hopes were high for the 650d pioneering new sensor tech an whatnot. As it seems, it's now back to the usual Canon business :-(

Digic 5 please.

Digic 4 please, it runs magic lantern right now. What's a Digic 5 good for w/o an updated af system using it like in the upcoming 70d?

add AF microadjustment, and it's a great upgrade for stills shooters too

I don't think Canon will add this to the xxxd series because the current 60d hasn't it. Maybe in the 700d after the 70d is released.

... last not least: The good thing about the 650d is that the 550d + dual lens kit is now sold for a bargain, so if anyone doesn't need the lukewarm new features it's a good time to get into Canon's 18mp budget dlsr line.

As I said the 60D AF beign shifted down with all 9 points being cross type seems like a pretty major upgrade to me, first time the Rebel line has had its AF upgraded in 6 years and actually moves it above the Nikon D3200 and the D5100.

They didn't say the 650d also inherits the f2.8+ sensitive center point, so I guess it's not the same af after all. And this might matter even on the rebel, because next to missing afma this is the second problem for using budget lenses like the 50/1.8.

My 400D had this, and the rebel AF system has stayed pretty much the same since then.  Not a new feature.

I think the only upgrades this year will be digic 5 and the AF and lens. Next year would get the 70d sensor.

+1.

The sensor will be the same one that's currently used in the 60D and 600D.
Maybe tweaked a little.

The 650D will still have some image quality improvements, though - coming from the Digic 5+ processor and Canon's new JPEG engine.
Maybe half a stop cleaner ISO.

In addition to the update AF, the 650D is also getting a pentaprism viewfinder.
Thus, the only difference between the 650D and the 60D is now the top LCD screen.

In other words, the 60D is basically dead. Long live the 70D ;).

Imho that's typical for tech forum talk - personally, I didn't get the 60d because of the specs, but because of the much better ergonomics (buttons, back dial, top lcd) and for the same reason even choose not to buy the d7000 which outclasses the 60d hands down.

Yep, I've used the T2i/T3i, and I hate trying to switch between exposure settings on them. Its much simpler on my 60D.

I didn't mean to put down the 60D in any way.

Just saying that Canon made the 650D identical in specs to the 60D (sans the top LCD).
So, no more product differentiation between the two - a clear sign that the 60D days are numbered.
And that a higher specs 70D is on the way.

I really don't care if the 60d is put down or not, it doesn't affect its value to me in any way. But don't discard the back dial so easily - for my shooting style, I'm practically changing exposure compensation with it for every other shot, esp. when using flash. And as usual for Canon, the 60d will still retain more custom functions in the firmware.

The back dial will eventually be absored by a touchscreen gesture(s).  It's the next logical step.

With an even higher-specs 7DII.

the double dial is very useful for the people interested taking photos...and the 60D has been a big let down for me at least

burst rate on 60d is double that of the 650d in raw ,1/8000 shutter , 250 sync speed, finer iso settings. weather sealing. and it does not say rebel on the camera.
