Will the S100 successor have a larger sensor?

Will Canon increase the sensor size of the S100 in its successor to deliver more MP with better IQ rather than just more MP?

Sony is taking the approach, however that camera also costs $600+. Not sure I'd want to pay that much for a P&S.

Interesting question. Never know what Canon might do.

As I said in the other thread, what I'd like to see Canon do is add the three memorized custom function sets like the new Sony has. That would be a real step forward.

That is fairly close minded, don't you think? All Canon compacts other than the G1X use Sony sensors anyway.

You can plan on that thanks to Sony who is offering their 20MP for $650.  Canon, will most likely offer an improvement to the S100 similar to Sony's for about the same price.  Its just my guess.

I'm talking about APS-C sensor, not compact. I'm willing to pay up to $1000 if Canon can build APS-C sensor in current S100 chassis size.

i think the glass is going to be the biggest challenge with that but it would be impressive to say the least

Regardless, what can they do to up the ante on the S100? Barring any other ideas I think a bigger sensor makes sense.

However I would guess they wouldn't so a full APS-C sensor, but one somewhere in between. Canon seems to like to take that approach, where they can claim better performance without going all the way. Dunno

Canon already brought out one camera since the original post with an APC sensor it's the EOS-M it's fine until you have to put lenses on it and their 22mm pancake lens is a laugh, pancake? It's more like a tortilla.

I am wondering whether the new small camera with the ƒ1.9 lens might be the 'to be announced this month', G12 succesor or will it be the S100 successor? Will it too have an APC sensor? It's a pity that Canon has to announce a camera (the EOS-M) that wont be available for three months whereas Sony announces a camera the RX100 that was available just a few weeks later. I just hope that wont be the case with the 'soon to be announced' G12 successor, announced in August, maybe available just in time for xmas! LOL.

Incidentally someone earlier said that Sony makes all Canon's sensors, that's not true is it? I thought Canon made their own sensors?

Canon makes their own dSLR sensors, and I believe the G1 X and EOS-M as well.  But the rest (including the S100) come from Sony.
