I highly doubt that this means the 7d mk2 is hitting the shelves before christmas to say the least, yes. Maybe the 70d will replace the 7d and it will be a entry level FF between the 70d and the 5d once the 7d is really replaced.

That sounds entirely plausible.  It looks like Canon wants to breathe some more life into the 7D, to tide it over a bit longer.

DPReview has a Canon press release of the new firmware update:

It looks like a pretty substantial upgrade...

Improved audio quality and manual audio levels make more of a case for recording audio on camera via external mic rather than using external device such as a zoom!

Great news.

I'll still need my beachtek to get XLR feeds in, but now I can get rid of the AGC disable feature, and the subsequent CH1 filtering required to low-pass the anti-AGC tone - two clean channels!!!

And best of all, all my files are in the one place: no synching issues!

I was pondering selling my 7D.  Not now!

Am I the only one who is disappointed by this firmware?  I don't do video, I shoot in RAW, I hardly ever use auto ISO, not interested in GPS, there's not much left.  Customized file naming sounds good, increased burst rate, sure, I never hit the limit though.  Oh well, here's hoping that they maybe also did a little image quality tweaking, a tad less noise, less banding, who knows, probably not though.

Well, looks like I might have some power(or at least a little bit of good timing). Thank you eveyone who posted the announcement of the update I inquired about here. "Team Canon" I'll call us, great work! I hope we are all happier with our 7D's. Heck I might look into shooting some video now with it. Cheers everyone!  :D

just wondering why they didn't add in the digital zoom feature from the 600D since its the same sensor I would have thought this would have been another great addition for the video guys, since the majority of the updates seem video related

Digital zoom?  Never used and never will.  If moire wasn't bad enough you then want to stretch the resolution of the lens to breaking point.  It's a bullet point to hook consumers, nobody serious about video would entertain a digital zoom IMHO.
