The 7D for half price

Nobody I hope - it has the same sensor as the 60d/600d, no swivel screen and doesn't run magic lantern (the hdr video feature alone...). And it doesn't have live view video af like the 650d, quick af with the 7d doesn't make up for that. Furthermore, for some more $$$ you're getting the 5d2 (magic lantern again) and much higher iso capability...

I bought one for video when it was actually the best option.  Canon had launched the 5D2 but without a 25fps / PAL mode, the 500D didn't have full frame full HD and the 7D WAS the best option at that time.

Buying now, for video, I wouldn't (the fact I've had a 550D and 600D since, speaks volumes) but it is still a superlative action stills camera, and I'm glad I have it.

Live view video AF? C'mon guys.  Video and AF don't go.  Particularly with large sensors and shallow DoF.  AF quality or lack therof in live view mode should not even register on the scale.  If you are a grandad shooting birthday partys, get a compact, or use your phone.  If you are at all serious, switch the AF off.

... and use focus peaking with magic lantern :-) ... I really don't want to hurt 7d users' feelings, but as you said the 7d is the worst possible choice for video at the moment.

Outside of the 1100D and Nikons, yeah.

I don't really use peaking on my ENG, so have never been tempted to install it on my 550D or 600D.

5x & 10x works before I start record, and I can usually tell during a shot if i'm drifting out.

I think that the only similarity between these two bodies in all honnesty is that they have the same sensor. Thats a real plus for the Rebel and a real shame for the 7D, and that speaks volumes.

Actually, they really only have the same pixel density, and perhaps the same microlenses. The sensors are not the same electronically, you can NOT use a T2i, T3i, 60D sensor in a 7D, they are NOT the same part number, the 7D's sensor has an 8 channel readout compared to the others 4 channel readout.

So, yes the T3i and the 7D are identical in the number of megapixels and metering system they have, other than that they are completely different cameras.

I had a 450D that died. Canon loyalty program gave me a 270$ credit on the body, I then chose a Refurbed 7D body only. The Total was around 930$. EPIC Deal Btw. RIP XSI, you will be missed.

While I'm sure they're all great cameras, I choose the 7d over the others because of the build quality and the ergonomics.  It fits in my large hands perfectly.  The rebels are just too small.

Incidently the T3i & T4i will both auto focus in video mode with the new 40MMM AST lens Both cameras will also use the Radio Mode of the 600 EX RT flashes, and am i the only shooter to have purchased a Firewire card reader for CF SDHC THOSE DUMB SONY CARDS ETC>>> i have never talked to anyone else that owns one??

1.  T3i will af in video / live view mode with 40mm STM, as will every canon dslr with live view and video.
T4i has improved af thanks to phase detection and contrast af points also on sensor.  Stick.  Wrong end. Have.  You.
