Recent wedding with 5D Mk iii incl. ISO 12800 images
« on: June 30, 2012, 08:04:41 PM »
Hi all,

I've just posted a blog of highlights of a recent wedding I shot at the Old Royal Naval College in London. Toward the end of the series are a collection of low light couple portraits all shot (bar the last one) at ISO 12800, some with backlighting and some with just the available light. The very last one is shot at ISO 1600 on a 5D Mk ii.

Here is the link:

http://www.bellissimaphoto.co.uk/london-wedding-photography/old-royal-naval-college-wedding-photographer.html

I found the focussing to be on the edge for the night time couple shots and although it was fine, my life could have been made a little easier if I had used a torch as a focus assist tool! Anyway, I am chuffed with the results.

Those are some great shots. Really shows off what we can do now with this camera! Last week for a black and white available light at night class at my photography school I was shooting in monochrome at ISO 25,600 to get some nice, slight intentional grain etc. I was showing some of my shots to other students in another class yesterday and it really blows the mind. Even caused a girl to blurt out an expression of expletives!

Really great camera. Thanks for sharing! Please continue to do so.

Thanks Tammy. It sounds like you really impressed your lot with those very high ISO images. Good stuff!

What lenses did you use for these?

What WE could with this camera? Would you ask Shakespeare what sort of pen he used? Do I think I could make Lord of the rings with Peter Jackson's gear?

Those images are fantastic! Be sure to sort that link in the thread where the troll asked if we all though images posted here weren't any good...

Nice work, 12800 is definitely very usable on the 5D3. I have no idea about wedding photography so just curious, are shots of shoes something you are expected to provide to the client?

Beautiful images David. If I could offer just one point of constructive criticism, it would be to use a bit of a shallower depth of field in the wide indoor ceremony shots. To me personally, the bride and groom are lost in the midst of the sea of people and lack a little bit of focus as everyone is equally sharp. I saw you stopped down the 24-105 to f/5.6 but shooting it wide open could be nice to try too..
