Sell 5D2 for a 1Ds 3

I did the same as you - sold the 5D2 and got the 1DS3 instead of a 5DIII - due to the better metering. If has more than met my expectations

I agree that the 1Ds3 is a great camera and I use mine.  But unfortunately it cannot go to high ISO, where the 5D3 can.  I sort of look at the 5D3 as actually replacing the 1Ds3 more than the 1DX.  The 5D3's metering isn't as good, but it can shoot cleanly at ISO 6400.  They are both compromise cameras. 

To support this thread, anytime I'm shooting outdoors, my 1Ds3 is my main camera and the colors and metering are very, very accurate.  Those are probably the best attributes over the 5D3.  5D3's auto ISO in manual mode makes it handy in low-light indoor situations, but in landscape and portrait the color depth is not as great as the 1Ds3.

Having just picked up a 1Dx, I'm also considering selling my 5D Mark III and picking up a 1Ds III as my backup...  Seems like the bottom has dropped out of the 1Ds III market.  Still on the fence about it.   The main things holding me back are the 5D III's silent shutter and the smaller form factor....

I would strongly advise against that.  You will be very disappointed overall.  The 5D Mark III is a much more powerful tool than the 1Ds 3.  I only use my 1Ds 3 from ISO 50 to 200.  Outside of that, IQ on the 5D3 is superior.  Also, you can shoot in manual mode with auto ISO on the 5D3.  Technology has come a long way since 2007 and overall my 5D Mark III's take better pictures, usually.  I could see trading a 5D2 for a 1Ds3, but doing so with a 5D3 would not be a smart move.  You'll be going backwards.
