I think it's safe to say the 1d X looks like a stop better than the 5d3 at 12800..

Mine will hopefully arrive tomorrow, I. Can't. Wait!

This was an outdoor jazz concert at a local science museum, featuring Nathan and the Zydeco Cha-Chas.  The shots below were taken about 30 minutes after sunset.

Shot RAW, converted using default settings in DPP, only edit was cropping.  Click image then View All Sizes (upper right) for a 1600 pixel version.  Thanks for looking!

Challenging shooting conditions but looks like the camera and the photog were up to it. Do you do any color corrections or calibrations?

I'd dearly love a 1DX to replace or supplement my 5DMKII, but they targeted it at a different photographer (I don't need FPS). Probably just as well, I can put that money into lenses and what not. I'll have a harder time if the rumor of a big megapixel 1D body comes true.

Thanks!  No, these were shot RAW and processed with the default settings in DPP - the only edit was cropping of some images.

But...that one stop makes a substantial difference in background blur (~30% thinner DoF at 135mm).  My primary use for the 135L is portraits, where I have control over the subject distance.

That would be a decision factor me to buy both 70-200 and 135.

I just bought a 5D3 for concert photos. I needed the better quality high ISO over my T4i, so this is very useful for me.

The best camera I have ever owned was my Canon 1DsII.  I am not making much money with photography any more, so I can't justify the 1 series cost any more either. 

But if you could e-mail my wife and tell here that the 1DX is 1 stop better at 12800 ISO, I'm sure that would convinvce her!  I gotsta have it!

Congrads Neuro!  These images are crisp, and yeah, the performance at 12800 does appear to edge out the 5d3 (which has been blowing my mind above 8000 ISO).  It is very much what I would expect to see in a 1 series!  How is it in the lower ISO ranges (like 100-800)?  I shoot across the ISO spectrum, but there are many on here that never go above 800 and love to bash canon for not having the DR and res that nikon is getting.  So, while I am curious (and am pretty positive it rocks at 100-800), asking on behalf of the bashers.    Again, congrads man!!!  And looking forward to seeing more images!

The 1st picture is exceptionally good at that ISO level, especially as it was shot wide open. On your Flickr page you can see both his eyes clearly through his sunglasses. The cheek highlights also give it a lot of character. Presumably you manually set the AF points to the face (eye region). Wish I had a 1DX

I'm afraid I don't have the 5d3 anymore. Btw, has anyone seen any science on the difference in DR between the two? I feel the 1d X have more of DR where it counts, better highlight recovery and shadows, just so much that you can recover pretty much anything and have a great image where other cameras just go nearly black and white....
