One last one at ISO 3200...nothing fancy, but I am starting to like this camera!  I have yet to miss focus on a single shot! The AF rocks!

Thanks for posting that - i compared to some ISO 10K shots on my MkIII, and i'm actually sort of underwhelmed.  The grain pattern isn't as fine as the 5D, but i condede that this shot might be noisier because of ALO or some other sort of in-camera processing.   Doesn't seem like there's much more dynamic range in the 1DX's files either.

The lens are an asset whereas the gym is an expenditure. So the asset can be sold anytime and the money recovered, whereas once used the gym money is lost. That is my pitch to the wife :D

This WAS shot Raw, with 1D-X defaults, including AI servo defaults.

Just got the 1DX yesterday.  Great thunderstorm tonight in Olympia, WA so I thought I would try to capture some bolts with the 50mm f/1.2.  I've never tried to shoot lightning before so forgive me if this isn't very professional.  Tips and tricks for shooting lightning from you seasoned vets would be much appreciated.

The first shot was fired off at f/16, 1/10sec.
Second and third shot were f/16, 1/50sec.
all three at 25600 ISO.

They cleaned up very nicely in LR4

Gary, when you shoot your BIF images, can you commonly capture 6-10 "keepers" without any that have missed focus?

When I've tried them with a 1Ds MkIII coupled with a 300 2.8, I can capture a series like this only about 5% of the time.



Most of the time, one or two of the shots in the series will have missed focus as I follow them across the pond.
