Gary,

Thanks for starting this thread, it is my favorite of the year !!!!

Group in general,

I find that these photos have an amazing realism to them, more so than almost all other images I have viewed on the internet.  The subjects look 'alive' and in 3 dimensions, much more than just photographs.

The examples here are from several different photographers, different lighting, different kinds of subjects, etc.  but almost all of them have this 'alive' quality that I don't see very often.  Can one conclude that the camera used has more 'magic'?  Is there some common thread in the post processing?  Does this Canon Rumors forum site present photographs with a different level of quality than other sites?  Something else?

I am anxious to hear your views, as I have only been dipping my toe in the DSLR waters for the past 2 years, (when the work schedule allows).  I have not seen anything from my EOS 7D that approaches the photographs here.  Needless to say, they intrigue me.

Thanks,

Mark

It's combination of a camera, lens and photographer. If you give the camera to a newbie, you won't be able to achieve much difference. Though, there is something in the color rendition that the camera is abe to do, feeling the lighting conditions and getting the right moment from the best perspective is more important.

I'm way out of my elements on this one, since I usually never take portraits...  I figured, eh, might as well give it a try.  I hope you guys like it. :)

Was a floating dock, so that's why have a bit of blur on the subjects, plus keep my son still for 13 seconds is almost impossible

This has been a most enjoyable thread. I love seeing the diversity of the images people are creating with this wonderful camera.

For me, there was a bit of a learning curve with the 1DX, specifically with the exposure, but after a little time, I can say it's truly the most wonderful DSLR I've ever worked with.

Here's a couple of shots from the recent superfrog ironman event in San Diego.

Both images are shot on a 1DX with a 135mm f/2.0L at 1/8000sec and iso 200
