1Dx f/2.0 200mm

Looks like you asked him to pose like that. Amazing Shot Gary!

a wild bear, cropped from full size to about 2x this size.

The full shot includes the shoulders, claws and a patch of stream its looking into.
If you debate with a fool onlookers can find it VERY difficult to tell the difference.

"Soul of the Ancient Forest"

Wonderful image and great post production.  What lens was that if you don't mind?

Thank you very much for your kind comment Studio1930.  ;)
I shoot in raw only in order to pull all kind of "maneuvers" lately in post production.
I used 1Dx +  EF 70-200 f2.8 L II IS USM, combined with B&W S03 F-PRO Serie E (77mm) circular polarizer.

+1,000,000,000

Absolutely fabulous!

Thanks rpt, thanks people, I'm really glad you liked this photo that much.
I really have a lot more to learn with my new Canon equipment, but so far it was a "light jump" compared to my previous camera Sony R1 (it's not comparable, I know), but imagine all the freedom with this piece of machinery!  On my previous camera I used only ISO 400, and even with that low ISO my pictures was filled with noise... and now... oh my God  :o
I feel like I stole something from aliens that came from the future!!!  8)
I loooove my Canon!
And now... there is no limit.
More from me soon  ;)

While I lust for a super tele like Gary's .... the shots that I want to take are often what I see of the 200 F2....  such an amazing lens...

I agree K-amps.  It is hard to believe how good the shots look nearly straight out of the camera like this from the 200 f/2 (and the 1DX)...  ;D

Is it just me or do gary's shots of these animals on the previous pages just don't look "THAT" awesome. They seem grainy, a bit blurry here and there and the bokeh is just not beautiful. Compared to other shots posted here, these look more like rebel than 1dx. No offense, but I really want to know what's wrong cause that is not what you await from a $13000 setup (1dx+200mm 2.0)

Couldn't disagree more. I keep revisiting this thread specifically to see Gary's animal shots, which are simply amazing. Your comments and the photos I see from Gary simply don't match.
Having come on and been so rude with your first post, you now owe it to the forum to post examples of your own amazing work.
PS - how to tell when someone is going to cause offense - when they preface their remarks "no offense"

I couldn't agree more w/ Narco.  This is an online community of photographers and we should support each other as a general rule of thumb.  Life can be hard enough without someone on a forum bashing you. Especially if it's so clearly off base.  If you disagree with something you should politely, respectfully, and professionally state your contrary/different opinion or point of view.

I was able to get my hands on a 1DX with a 600mm lens in the recent Canon Photomarathon held in KL, Malaysia and all I can say is WOW!  Sharpness and DR are way above what I was able to churn out of my old 500D (comparing zircons to diamonds...  ;D).  I hope it will not be the last time I'll be able to hold this awesome camera.  It's a dream...

I can finally shoot the 85L at f/1.2 with confidence thanks to the 1DX.  Wonderful combination.  It was too unpredictable with my 1DsM3.

As said, photography is subjective.  What might look bad for you look good for others (and I like Gary's samples).  Saying that, please don't look down on rebels.  They maybe a lot "cheaper" than 1DX but they're not horrible as what you seem to describe them.

Here's someone shooting mainly with an 1100D and 18-55mm III lens.  I don't think his shots are crappy.

You can also take a look at my own photos.  Rebels might have more limitations and shortcomings compared to a 1DX but you can also take good pictures with it if you know how.  Yup, I would take 1DX in a heartbeat but I won't mind shooting with a rebel camera if that's all I can afford.
