very limited pp nr in lightroom 4 at a setti g of 15 for both images i think no more than that :-)

Hey guys.  This isn't meant to be "one of my best" but I wanted to share a nasty situation with you guys.  I had to finally shoot at ISO 12,800 in a dimly lit fluorescent gym, finally one of the worst situations I could think of.  I'll post the photo here.  My analysis is that the faces blur faster away from the focus point and the colors vary much more throughout the different faces in the crowd, and seems "warmer" despite lowering color temp drastically in post to around 3100.  Overall though, I think the 1DX did an okay job.  Specs are 1/500, f/2.8, ISO 12,800 at around 130mm with a 70-200 f/2.8L II IS lens.

nice image going by your shutter speed you could have reduced that iso though

I should have reduced the shutter, but I only had two quarters of the game to shoot before I had to hurry home and send my photos to the News Journal.  So this shot was in the heat of the game, and with CWA ISO 12,800 showed an even (0 EV) exposure. 

Now, what I would have done, is lower that shutter in half or even to 1/100s and the ISO would have been way lower.  This is why I have since changed my shooting mode to "faux M" so that I can do this more easily and more quckly.  Hey, you learn right? .

Very nice...such a narrow DOF, yet you nailed focus on her face and ball.

Much easier than it seemed.  She was pretty much on a fast break and I had time to lock focus on her face and then spray about 5 frames .  That's one nice thing about the 1DX, once it locks, you can spray and it'll stay locked on.  Oh I love the camera so much.

Thanks a lot guys.  I still have a ton to learn, and hope to expand my photography beyond sports this spring.  It's such a fun subject matter.  Please keep sharing your photos.

some more hockey....love the 1dx and 70-200 2.8 combo for hockey...truth be told, I would love it more for hockey if it were a 50-200mm.
