Red Tailed Hawk eating a female Mallard
600 mm, f/5.0, 1/1000, ISO 5000
Three weeks prior to this shot being taken, this Red Tailed Hawk had eaten a male Mallard just 5 feet from this spot.  I sat watching this bird for about 2 hours.   It really did not care I was there.

Love your shots - are these OOC JPGs or can you share with us your workflow - I'm impressed with the dynamic range in these shots and curious how much and what type of postproduction you do on the RAW image.

Here is an example of a Galapagos Hawk, shot RAW with LR adjustments - I am pleased with the capture with but not really satisfied with my processing c/w yours. I'm always looking to make my photos more natural.

That must take immense power and strength of the wings. For how long do they hold this kind of stance? This one looks like it is almost on the ground! How high up was it and where were you with respect to the eagle?

eagles love to fight & steal  there could be food all over the ground but they want to take it from someone. the one  fly's in to steal  and the one on the ground jumps up claws first to try to stick him   that is what you see  the eagle doing that I posted I just cropped that part out

my work flow is just by eye !! in  photoshop 6 in raw I push & pull the best I can. trying  to get as much  detail as I can with out washing it out to bad any thing with light's & dark's in the same shot makes hard to get right .
Cool! Thanks for the explanation. Now I totally get the pat-a-cake shot...

600mm f/7.1 1/5000 iso 400 case1
not sure if I have posted this before metering setting is 99.9% always on (partial)
every body shots there own way  I shoot  on AV but I'm really watching the speed If it gets to slow I open up the Len or iso shooting things that fly. speed is Avery thing  I would like 7.1/ 10.0 but will take  f/4.0 3000 over f7.1 1 /800   if your to slow you come home with crap !! hope this helps
I learnt the hard way shooting the flamingos that 1/800 is not a fast enough speed in many cases. Gary, do you fix your ISO or do you set it to Auto? I had shot in Manual mode with auto ISO.
