Thanks everybody.  For the final image I cropped a bit more off the top and left more on the left.  I think the focusing was due also in part to the 1Dx as I seem to have much more luck with that than previous cameras.  The golf tournament I had over 900 shots with not one OOF at all.  The lens is really good.  Thanks.

1Dx 300f/2.8 V2, Shot & f/8 & 1/800th, Mala Mala Northern South Africa.

Nice shot!

I saw in a different thread that one of your favorite spots is the Okawongo same as me.

Do you have an online collection which one could have a peak in?

Hi Darlip, putting one together now, should be up & running in about 2 months, will advise the web address once it's done, appreciate your interest.

The Okavango Delta is a wonderful place, I've been going back once or twice a year for the past 6 years, Mombo is the place, but Duba Plains, Vumbura, Kings Pool, Jao & Zafara are all great places to see wildlife. Heading to the Wildebeest Migration this June, and also Siera Kafuma for the Himba People.

Something of interest perhaps, during my last trip to Africa, at some point, one of my 1Dx Bodies sustained a damaged Focus Screen, no idea how this happened, although I'm not particularly delicate with my gear (to me they are just tools for a job), I generally don't drop the gear or knock it about unduly, so how/why the screen broke I cant tell, the screen broke along the lower edge, shows up in the viewer as a Black shatter mark as you would expect from broken glass. Don't know if anyone else has had this issue ?? have to say it's the first time I've ever had to send a Canon Camera back for repair for something like this. Fortunately it was only about the lower 10% of the view finder that was affected so the Camera was completely usable still. I've drowned a 5D & 2 5DMK2's over the years (Underwater housing leaking, at depth, solved that issue by switching from Subal Housings to Seacam Housings), but the screen was surprising.

Maybe the heat got to it.  There is a limit as to what they can take.

Cheers, looking forward to it.

Enjoy your next trip, can't help feeling slightly envious as its a wonderful area to be in with or without a camera. Now I have to figure out working moneymaking schemes ;)

Hi Guys,

I stumbled on this forum and after looking for a few minutes was blown away by "Garry Samples".  Looked for another couple hours untill it was nearly 4AM and I couldn't keep my eyes open.  Emailed the link around and now I'm back and there is scarcely a trace.  Anyone have any idea what happened - I'm so disappointed!
