Amazing shots eml58!! I have pre-ordered the 200-400...still waiting for its arrival. I have been having second thoughts on this lens, so any info would be greatly appreciated. Also, which other thread did you posts images from the 200-400mm?
Hi Raptors, I posted the same Images on a thread here re the 400f/2.8 versus the 200-400, but once I'm Home in around 2 weeks I'll Post more on the 1Dx Site.
I also posted on the other thread my initial views of the 200-400 compared to the other 2 Lenses I am carrying, the 300f/2.8 v2 & 400f/2.8 v2.
For Wildlife out to 600 you wont find anything better, the ability to start tracking an Animal at 560 f/5.6 then track towards you, dropping the 1.4x extender out getting you back to 400f/4 then zooming all the way back to 200f/4 with one touch while never loosing Focus, is just amazing. After a week of this I have left the 300 & 400 back at Camp and just use the 200-400 & the 70-200f/2.8 L II both Attached to 1Dx Bodies.
I tried setting my other 1.4x converter in place as well as engaging the built in 1.4x converter, although it works just fine, auto focus is maintained, Images do show fall off, so for me this wont be something I'll consider, using the 2x converter simply degrades the Image too much for me, works Yes, but you loose autofocus, and poor Image Quality is the result.
But the Lens is great, sharp, smooth Zoom, the flip in Converter is a dream, and Focus Tracking is spot on, on Cheetah on a KIll at around 80Kph the only time I lost Focus was if the whole Cheetah went behind a Bush, through Tall Grass worked a treat.
