Some pretty awesome photos in this forum, and some pretty bad ones as well. As a recent 1DX owner I felt for a longtime my photos where not worthy enough to post in this thread. Until I made this photo of a White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) 4 days ago. Hope you guys like it, I know I do :)

A shot I frequently attempt to perfect, made difficult by Elephants having amazingly Long and Bushy Eye Lashes.

A different Female in the Group, this one was the Alpha Female, these Guys were so close to us, we were laying on the ground at the Base of the Vehicle, that we could hear clearly the deep rumbling the Elephants make when they communicate softly to each other, the sound actually vibrates off you.

At 200mm, you must have been very close. Great images!

They started out reasonably far out, but once we moved out onto the Ground they came right in to Investigate.

The attached shot I had to ask my Lad to pass out to me the 5DMK III with the 24-70 on, at this Point the Alpha Female had decided to move on and was pushing the herd around the front of the vehicle.

Young chap in the Image is Greg DeToit, just won Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2013 in London.

And last one, this was when they first came right up to us.

Again, shot with the 24-70f/2.8 II at 24mm

Interesting how neither Grey or the guy / guyess in the rumoured 100-400 II photo are using hoods. Have hoods gone out of fashion ?

Greg was using the new (at the time), Nikon 80-400 which he tends never to use the Hood on, he also uses the Nikon 200-400 but keeps the Hood on.

I've sort of followed suit as it seems to work, the Canon 70-200 I don't use the Hood (it's so small in any case), the 200-400 I do but that's mostly because it's the new Baby so gets extra care and attention.

If I have the Sun forward of the front element I'll generally put the Hood on, otherwise I tend to leave them off, at this point I've had very little issue with flare on any of my Canon Lenses.
