Macro Images with 5D MkIII
« on: July 21, 2012, 05:29:31 PM »
I've seen a few macro images taken with the 5D MkIII and a few lens specific topics, but I haven't seen a general macro topic purely with the MkIII, so I thought I'd start one.
I'm finding manual focus easier than I expected and I can manage at least as well as with the MkII and much better than the 7D. I am also getting clean images as high as ISO 6400 with correct exposure. After some initial test shots, I'm now beginning to experiment with different compositions, despite the windy weather.

Here is one from the 5D3 that wasn't even taken with a macro lens.  Good example of the cropping ability of this camera.  This is about 1/12 of the actual frame shot.  I shot it with my 100-400L at 375mm, ISO 640, f/5.6 @ 1/500 second.

A on the spur of the moment shot next to a swimming pool in Indian Wells CA. Shot with a 5d mkiii and 100mm 2.8 L IS macro. Its been cropped more than I would like just to see if it would hold up. He was a bit skittish so I couldn't get in the best position.

That is what I am saying, my 70-200mm produces images that typical people call Macro, and that is taking it down to a 1/8 or smaller crop! Very fun camera thus far. Running a AFMA on some lenses today to see if it helps any more, which would be amazing.

Cheers

I keep thinking about the MPE, but there are so many other lenses I keep thinking about :P. I'll have to try some shots with my Kenko extension tubes when the wind drops.

My neighbor's son had gotten a Tree Frog recently.  The time was ripe for a macro photo.  Took several pics of which all came out great but this one is my fave.

Here is a fun one I shot the other night.  I found this spider dead so I decided to shoot it and use focus stacking.  Shot with 29 images stacked together.

Canon 5DIII + 100mm f2.8 macro + 37mm extension tubes.  Manual exposure, manual focus, ISO 1000, f3.2
