5D3 Light Leak Issue - Did you send yours in???
« on: July 24, 2012, 12:38:02 PM »
I am considering sending mine in, not because it is affecting my images just because I think it should be updated. I don't intend to sell it any time soon but I am sure it helps in that regard. I saw number 5Dc sellers mention the mirror fix and 1D3 owners talk about the fix for AF being performed.

They say it will be 7-10 days to perform the repair.

What are your thoughts on this?

The light leak issue hasn't affected me, so I guess until it does (might not ever) I'm happy.

I sent my 5D3 in because I messed up the focus screen and told them to do the light leak repair at that same time.  I shipped the package out via UPS ground on a Monday, and I got the camera back that Friday, so it was a very fast turn around.   I have no idea where you got 7-10 days from, but that certainly wasn't my experience.  Canon Prof Services also replaced my focus screen and cleaned it for free, which I wasn't expecting.  So far I've had superb experience with them and couldn't be happier.

What Canon quotes and their actual turnaround time may vary with workload.  I guarantee that if I send a parcel by UPS ground to Canon from where I live, it will take 4 days for them to get it, and if a weekend is involved, 6 days.  Don't assume that the entire country is one day away from a Canon repair facility by UPS ground.

The 7-10 business days was quoted to me by Canon Canada - I am sure that is the standard line they are told to say to callers. They also suggested I send it via Purolator and do not put insurance as they are covered by Purolator for all items (sounds a little fishy to me). They gave me their Purolator account number so there is no cost to me to send it in.

I suppose I could drop it off but they are only open during the week and it would be a hassle to drop off but I may do it none the less.

I bums me out that I will potentially loose my 5D3 for two plus weeks and am trying to schedule my shooting schedule around it. I will resort back to my 40D during that time so it is not like I will be completely naked :D

Really?  Which level of CPS do you have?

I'm a CPS Gold member and use the NJ center.  Except for the repair discount, I couldn't justify upgrading to Platinum -- all of my turn-around times have been in 3 days or less.

I think this only affects certain cameras.  Look at the link below and check your serial number to find out if yours is one of the possible "victims"  ;)
